I was let go from a company in early July after misaligning with management (last day was agreed on in June). I was given too many tasks to do and when I politely asked to delegate tasks to other people, my manager was really rude about it and said she could no longer guarantee a set amount of hours on my contract.
Fast forward, I am now working a seasonal job at Target to pay the bills and I am feeling really defeated. I have been applying to marketing jobs (my forte) ever since I learned I was being let go. I keep having interviews but no job offers other than Target and Ikea. I have a Master's degree in International Communications, and I cannot seem to find a role that suits my experience. I am 25, highly educated, adaptable, and have experience in marketing program management, strategy and social media marketing. I just want something that is applicable to my background and doesn't have me on my feet for 8 hours a day.

Yes! I would highly recommend applying for a position at Target.

I have lifelong friends because of Target

While working in retail I always got the bottom of the barrel jobs like moving pallets and stocking in the early morning or working the second or third shift which was the straighten the store shelves. But did not get the change to use my other skills like price unit scanning, price changes. It was always the heavy jobs that no one would do even to the point of unloading the trucks in Big Lots for 3 months and a couple of times at Walmart. and at Big Lots you not only unloaded the truck then you stocked the shelves. At Target you had to bring the heavy pallets to the department and unload them then stock them. there were times I cold hardly walk out the door and all the way to my car then dig it out before i got home then shovel myself a place to park at 11:30 to 12:00 at night in the winter. when I was finished I took a OTC pain med and went to bed. My employers took no interest in that fact that i could do more than stock or straighten the shelves.

Don't. Management does not care about you whatsoever ever. They push you to do more than possible and get upset when you don't get it done. I am a very motivated and dedicated hard worker and I have never been one to slack off at work or work slowly but nothing was ever enough. Management is absoloutly rude and there is no room for you to move up. I know many co-workers who and worked for Target for 5+ years and never had an opportunity to move up. Also, your hours are extremely unreliable and you will be lucky to get more than 15 hours a week. But hey, they will keep hiring and eventually you will start training people to litterally take your hours. They're method is schedule you for no hours and call you in when they're stranded. My best advice is do not work there and do not give their corporation your money as it will go straight to managements pockets.

I used my skills by being knowledgeable about helping my customers and showing a positive happy attitude towards everyone. I am very friendly and helpful to everyone.

I cannot stress enough how much better it is to be employed even if it’s not what you expected you would be doing. When I lost a job in fast food I was really just done with working with food and needed a break so I applied to my local Target. It was so different, but I was able to get into the flow of things pretty easily. I was used to standing all the time in my previous jobs so working the checkout lanes was really easy for me when other coworkers would complain about having to stand. I have since moved on, but it was a nice place to get a break from fast food and recover my confidence.

Used to work both night and day shifts. I definitely enjoyed night ones cuz our team worked together really well and we set our own goals to accomplish for the shift and nearly always exceeded them. Day shift was a bit different as we had management constantly involved so it went a lot slower. Overall though i really enjoyed spending time with my coworkers and getting things done. Happy to have been there and definitely recommend it for people looking for a job to build a good work ethic and teamwork skills.
