I want to know, how you can be working for a Temp Agency making 11.25 an hour? Get hired full-time by the company and only make 10 dollars an hour. Something is not right about that. I wonder if my daughter is lying to me? I thought you would make more. Right?

Does anyone have any luck going through employment agencies? They post jobs up on all the major job sites. They call you on the phone and then they ask for a face to face. They speak with you 10 mins hand you a card and ask you to call them in a week. Wasn't I applying for a specific job they posted to fill? Am I getting the brush off?

I took a temp to perm position because I needed a job with a company to gain some knowledge 3d design and modeling. They had me working with a staffing agency for my 90 days. After a few months they offered me a perm position. They pay was lower than I was use to, but the people working there were really nice and I enjoyed my job. This company had just implemented new software and they had gotten the bill today for the support $25K. And I had just gave them my personal info (including my DOB, SSN and my drivers License). On the Background check I had written a 3rd party clause that stated that I wanted to opt out on having my personal info saved in their database (background check co). This form also contained my age. Which is a lot older then the people I was working with/for. Meanwhile, the bill for the software support had just arrived (about 1.5 hrs before) the bill was received or submitted. I was called into the owners office and they stated that my offer had been withdrawn. They said it was because of the statement , "We can not be responsible for your data blah blah..I said I wish you would please re-consider. I told them that they were not 3rd party mentioned in the clause and it was for the people doing the background check (third party). I even mentioned that I would remove the statement. The HR lady who resides in another town was on the phone in the owners office. She had done a 180. She was really nice but when we all spoke (conf call) she was mean and not 100% factual. So Im wondering if I was not hired because of the age, the statement or the 25K bill? Also, I have no idea how to try to get unemployment. I feel really upset. I feel like I did nothing wrong...

Not all but I feel the majority of the staffing agency people are all about the "churn and burn" approach to placing people into jobs. They just want to throw volumes of people at jobs before they really learn what the prospective candidate is all about and where they may fit. They are always in a big rush to get your info together and present to a hiring company....OK, I get that, but they never ever show the professional courtesy to get back to you or provide any feed back that can improve your chances the next time around. I sometimes feel that we the job seekers are just fodder to shove in their cannons when they shoot it against the wall to see who sticks. On the other hand, the staffing agencies that really take the time to build a relationship and learn about the candidates do a much better job at getting you to the phone and face to face interviews. And their feed back has proven to be very fruitful in improving the chances for the next prospective opportunity. I say cut back on the fly by night agencies and only entertain the companies that illustrate the more fruitful approach. You can spend a lot of wasteful time entertaining the ladder for no appreciable outcome or improvement.

Working a potential temp-to-hire IT position, but environment is deplorable. I cannot take any time off to schedule interviews, etc., and am frankly being degraded personally on a daily basis. In addition I am not paid for any holidays. I'm definitely not interested in being a perm employee with this company, but need a job. Anyone have advice?? I'm ready to provide my 2 week notice and just move on, but unsure if that is the right move.

Was working at steady job for 3 months for a mid size private company after being laid off for almost a year, then received a better job offer from a staffing company to work for one of their clients, small privately owned company with about 15 employees (much closer to home w/ a little more pay) so I took it. Within a week of starting that new job, the boss had been humiliating and belittling another coworker who was also new right in front of all of us during our afternoon meetings. I noticed that the boss' behavior was not normal. Very erradic. His moods were always changing from one extreme to the next. One moment he was smiling and nice, the next moment, very arrogant, demeaning & hateful. I really felt bad for my coworker and hoped the boss would not ever speak to me that way.The following week the boss began criticizing my work and talking down to me and my coworker, scolding us as if we are children in front of the other employees during the afternoon meeting. He even used his kids as examples stating that when his kids bring home bad report cards he asks them why did they receive bad grades and who's fault is that and why didn't they ask any questions, then he said, "same thing with you two" referring to my coworker and I. I tried not to let that upset me and also tried not to take it personal so I let it go, however, I did feel as though his remark was unwarranted, humiliating and demeaning as well as embarrassing. I am open to constructive criticism, not raging rants and hour-long lectures saturated with belittling comments. The boss would end his rants with putting himself on a pedestal talking about how he made this happen and that happen... how he never makes mistakes and how we shouldn't either.

Every day during those dumb meetings the boss singled my coworker and I to point out mistakes we made in front of other employees yet they were never treated the same way nor singled out. If they made any mistakes, the boss would speak to them behind closed doors. The other employees had been there for a year or less. My coworker and I had replaced two other employees who quit due to the boss' constant demeaning comments and belittling...is what others in the company witnessed. I began dreading coming to work everyday & felt I made a big mistake quitting my other job but it was to late. How was I to know this new job was going to be a nightmare? I didn't. The next few weeks became much worse as the tyrant boss became uglier, hateful and nasty with my coworker and I..... those afternoon meetings were not meetings, it was a rant session and we were his punching bag (figuratively speaking). I couldn't take it anymore so I contacted the agency that placed me there and complained and asked if they could place me at another assignment soon one becomes available. This got back to the tyrant boss so he made things much worse to the point where he prohibited me and my coworker from ever making a mistake or else so I went back to the agency and told them what he said. The next day the tyrant boss ended my assignment and I'm out of a job now for speaking up! I thought I'd be upset but I'm not! I actually feel relieved as crazy as that sounds.

The work environment was extremely toxic and unhealthy. I was at the point where I couldn't eat or sleep anymore and began to feel much anxiety. My stomach was in knots everyday having to go to this job and endure constant abuse. Even though I'm out of a job now, no income ...for now ... at least I have my peace of mind back and no more abuse from a toxic vampire who gets his kicks out belittling and humiliating others.
