If you’ve recently been let go from a job it can make you feel angry, confused, and unsure of what to do next. You may have seen the term "at-will" thrown around and you aren't even quite sure what that is. Let’s take a look!

• What does “at-will” mean? If you work for a company and you are considered an “at-will” employee, this means you can be dismissed by an employer for any reason without having to establish "just cause" for termination and without warning. This is as long as the reason is not illegal (such as discrimination).

• How do I know if I am at-will? Many job applicants and new employees are asked to sign a written statement agreeing that they are (or will be) employed at will. This statement may appear in an employment application, contract or offer letter that the employer asks you to sign and return, an acknowledgment form for an employee handbook, or elsewhere.

• Is my state at-will? While all states recognize at-will employment some states place limitations on it. These limitations are in addition to the ones that federal laws apply to all states. I was informed that i was not being recontracted due to resurturing they wanted sheetmetal along with mechanic. I was terminated other parties envolved where not, mainly qaulity control which has overall control of maintenance. After sheetmetal was added in my position a nother aircraft mechanic position was added. I think there is some form of personel problem involed here my management. I think i have a law suit here what do you think?

So last week I was told that I was hired with H&R Block. I went in last Friday and trained for a 6 hour shift. I was not put on the schedule for the following week because I was told the schedule was already made. I contacted the manager of that office today just to follow up and she at that point stated to me that I needed to speak with someone else because apparently I technically was not hired and will not be placed on the schedule. I am frustrated and upset because number one I am receiving unemployment and that one day that I worked could possibly drastically affect my unemployment which is what I am solely dependent on right now for financial support, number two I could have spent that time looking for a more permanent job instead of waiting to see if I would be working next week. Is this legal does anyone know what I should do?

On January 10th I just got terminated from my job . I am still frustrated and sick to my stomach about it and I have applied every where and so far nothing!

I’ve been in the law Enforcement sector for 30 years. I’m currently serving as the Chief of Police for a local all black college. I found out last week the university is appointing a black chief and I’m out the door. I enjoyed my time (4 years) at the university but now I must move on. The only problem is, I have nowhere to move on to professionally. I have twin boys who graduate from high school in May 2018. Suddenly, I have no source of income or insurance for them. I’ve filled out numerous applications over the past week but with this being the holidays, potential employers aren’t at their jobs. Is anyone else in the similar circumstances as I am? And know I am broke and have no money to buy my little girls Christmas presents because everything I had left went to pay bills so they would have a place to live.

I was on disability and they terminated me. I was never notified by human resources my co worker called me and i was also on fmla. I filed complaints against my lead for harrassment. I requested a copy of my personal file. While on disability they requested a confetence call with two managers and a lawyer.

I have been working for a company for almost a year as an office manager. I cleaned up messes that were left by the girls that were there previously. When one day I was called in my bosses office by the he never talked to me much at all, HR was there and they let me go. They told me work two weeks, pay out your vacation time, and 2 weeks severance pay. I kept asking what did I do wrong all they could say was nothing. They said we will pay unemployment and not fight it. They never fight anyone on unemployment. I am so hurt that a girl that worked there before walked in the office and said she wanted her job back and because one of the guys there liked her from before they hired her back to take my job. I am truly upset about this and afraid to get another job. Scared everyone is going to be like this. Stuff like this happens to me all the time.
