DO NOT DO IT!! We were treated like we were indentured slaves, and talked down to like we were the dumbest creatures on Earth. Thinking about a promotion or advancement was quickly discouraged. There were FOUR people that I trusted - one Location Manager, one Lot Manager, one Lead Driver, and one lady that worked in the office. We had to ASK to take our breaks and our Meal Break. There was ONE bathroom for 20 women and men to use. We were "clocked" on how long it took us to get a vehicle from the service lot to the airport lot, and getting a returned car back to the service lot. This led to speeding and other unsafe driving that resulted in at least two accidents. If there wasn't a specific vehicle at the Airport, the Sales Agents blamed us for not knowing what they needed for reservations. I was a 60 year old openly Gay man, but I was called FAG (and much worse) in English and Spanish numerous times. I was falsely accused of: damaging vehicles twice, of lying to a Manager, accused three times of calling a Manager-In-Training a CT, a BH , and a W**E, accused of stealing company property and customer items that had been left in a vehicle, told to cover up a tattoo on my upper arm when others with tattoos were not, told I could not wear an earring when other men wore multiple earrings, told to do something other than my job and the person that told me denied doing it, and always was the person that was told to stay late because "you don't have a family to get home to". We were given 20 days notice that our jobs were being Contracted out, and that we had to apply and be interviewed for our jobs by the contractor, who didn't hire a single one of us. We got no severance or separation pay, and when I sued for harassment, discrimination and wrongful termination and won, Hertz insisted on paying the settlement directly to me instead of through the Court or my attorney, and took out taxes even though I had not worked for them in three years. Managers were told NOT to give any recommendations or letters of reference, and all employment verification calls were referred to Corporate, who (if they ever answered), gave answers that would ensure we wouldn't get hired anywhere, even doing the identical job for another rental car company. If Hertz was the only option for a rental car, I would rather walk on my lips!
