Unfortunately the atmosphere is not one for growth or skill advancement. It has become very stagnant in training and development from within for its veterinary technicians. Senior level management (doctors and technicians) do not promote development of technicians. While there I saw a training plan developed, implemented then stopped.

I only had one coworker, Dr. Holla Dougen. I was her assistant/nurse vet tec for Oahu spca. We got assigned to petco kahului, maui. Vaccines, medication and all the supplies we would need was shipped to Maui for us.

Oahu ASPCA wanted to give pet owners a chance to vaccinate their pets at a low cost. That would be me, I wouldn't be able to take my dog to a clinic and pay a big bill.

Not everyone can afford to take their pets to a clinic. We did vaccines for canines and felines. Also we extracted blood and did micro chipping.

It was my first time and I was so nervous. The veterinarian was my neighbor so it was a good experience. A experience I can take with me threw life. I love learning and experiencing new things.

I'm pretty worried about not being hired just because I have a hearing loss. I'm pretty good with vet tech tasks, but ever since a friend of mine who is deaf told me how much she struggled to get a job due to her being deaf, it really made me worry about myself. Deaf people can do anything!
