Despite what you may have heard, the holidays can actually be a good time of year to [find a job] (https://www.jobcase.com/jobs/search)! Employers don't stop hiring just because it's the holiday season, and for those who do keep searching and applying, the additional opportunities are worth the effort.

Check out the following 3 tips this holiday job search season!

1- Don’t slow down Some people tend to give up job searching as the holidays draw near. Don't be one of them! Employers are still hiring and there may be less competition, from other job seekers this time of year. In addition, companies that budget on an annual basis may have jobs that they need to hire for right now as the new year approaches. Search right [here] (https://www.jobcase.com/jobs/search) for your next opportunity!

2- A perfect time to network If there is a holiday party or event when you can connect with people who can help your job search, make sure to attend! Don’t be shy either. Many people will be pleased to have the opportunity to pay it forward by helping you, especially during the season of giving. Consider getting a [business card] (https://www.jobcase.com/conversations/cb795458-c78b-5403-abca-08908c09d94e) with your contact info. Bring a supply with you to give to the people you meet at networking events and holiday parties. Have your [elevator pitch] (https://www.jobcase.com/conversations/b7253760-b4f7-5094-b148-b567e55aaaf4) ready so you can quickly share information about your experience and background.

3- Consider sending a card Who doesn't love receiving a card this time of year? Consider sending a "Happy Holidays" or a "Happy New Year" greeting card to your networking contacts, recruiters, and to employers, you have interviewed with. It’s a great personalized way to reconnect with those who can help with your job search! You never know when a position may have opened up and everyone loves to reach out this time of year, so why not? Make sure to slip a [business card] (https://www.jobcase.com/conversations/cb795458-c78b-5403-abca-08908c09d94e) inside your card with your contact info so they know how to reach you!

Best of luck with your job search and remember to [stay positive] (https://www.jobcase.com/conversations/05297c15-731b-5085-8e7d-dd708c895508?from=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.jobcase.com%252Fcommunity) and most importantly don’t give up!

Surviving the Christmas holiday season with an uplifted spirit is sometimes difficult when you’re unemployed, but it doesn't have to be. Here are 3 ways to help you stay positive during your holiday job hunt!

1- Reach out when you are feeling alone Connect with others [here in the community] (https://www.jobcase.com/community) by posting a question or telling your story. Sometimes it's just nice to have someone who can relate to your frustration. Network with old co-workers and grab a coffee with them or just take a walk and catch up. See what they’re up to and if they know of any recommendations for you. Call up an old friend or family member you haven’t spoken to in awhile. There has never been a better time than now to reconnect!

2- Don’t compare yourself to others Sometimes commercials, movies, or even reading other people's blogs can make us feel a little blue. Remember that YOU are amazing and this is a rough patch that WILL pass. Everyone has been where you are right now. So, don’t compare yourself to others. Instead push away that tinge of negativity and stay focused on what you want, not on what you currently don't have!

3- Find sources of encouragement and empower yourself Check out some great [motivational quotes] (https://www.pinterest.com/search/pins/?q=Motivational%20quote&rs=typed&term_meta[]=Motivational%7Ctyped&term_meta[]=quote%7Ctyped) over here. You can print them out and plop them right on your fridge or where ever you want. You also can watch a brief Ted Talk to uplift your spirits. [These videos] (https://www.ted.com/playlists/225/talks_to_get_you_through_your) always helped inspire me when I was without a job for several months and feeling awful! They are worth a watch!

Remember to stay positive and keep [searching here] (https://www.jobcase.com/jobs/search) for new opportunities! We are here for you.

Think because you lack experience means you can’t make a resume? Not true! If you are a teenager looking for your first paying job, here are some ways to add experience and create your very first resume!

1- Emphasize your education As a current student (or even just out of high school), you want to emphasize your education. Place your education information at the very top of your resume. If you have a strong GPA, be sure to include this and list any academic awards, honors, or other achievements.

2- Include informal work, volunteer, and extracurricular experiences. Since your work experience is somewhat limited, focus on emphasizing any other forms of work, including volunteer experience or any extracurricular activities you participated in, including clubs, sports, and other organizations. If you happened to do some tutoring, babysitting, gardening, or dog walking for example include those as well. Even if these are jobs that don’t require a large skill set, the fact you performed them on a somewhat regular basis shows you have a strong work ethic!

3- Emphasize leadership experience. Employers are always looking for job applicants with leadership experience and qualities. If you were a captain for your sports team, or the vice president of your student council, be sure to list these positions! You should feel proud of them.

4- List your skills. Consider including a skills section on your resume to include any skills you have that are related to the job you are applying for. For example, you might list your computer, language, or other applicable skills here.

5- Connect your resume to the job. Review the job posting before creating your resume! Circle any key qualifications or requirements of the job and determine how YOU are a good match and what you can bring. Then be sure to include any experiences and skills in your resume that highlight how you are an ideal fit for that specific job.

6- Edit your resume! Make sure to proofread your resume before submitting it to an employer! Your format needs to remain consistent and easy to follow, and spelling or grammatical errors are a big no, no. ALWAYS ask a friend, family member, school guidance counselor, or teacher to read through your resume to catch any mistakes before you submit it to a potential employer!

Lastly, check out this [sample resume] (http://www.mass.edu/gearup/documents/WritingaResume.pdf) and some action words you can add into your resume to make it stand out to employers.

Best of luck with your first resume you’ll do great. Please reach out to the [community here] (https://www.jobcase.com/community) if you have any questions!

Thanksgiving is almost here and it’s time to...well, be thankful : ) The truth is when you’re looking for work it isn’t always easy to feel your best. The stories I am about to share are from people JUST like you who have been where you are right at this very moment. They were without a job, nervous, unsure, but hopeful that they would find a great opportunity. Well guess what?! They found it, and they were kind enough to share their journeys with us!

I hope these posts inspire you to know that if they can do it, so can YOU! As one of my favorite sayings goes,“You're braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” Don’t give up, no matter what. We are here to help! So let’s congratulate these folks, ask them questions and learn from them. I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday next week. I am grateful to be apart of this community of strong, brilliant, and awesome individuals! You truly amaze us everyday.

Even though it may seem like you are going on many interviews and fiing out many applications, dont give up. Keep tour head up and keep positive. I was lucky enough to find a job after 10 years of looking for the right opportunity, I now have been working at Family Dollar for 4 months and have earned my position as an assistant manager position. It is all about staying positive and never giving up.

being the first woman that ever worked in this shop. I proved myself over and over again. I piece of scrap in over 6 years. I learned quickly and was greatly depended upon. The most valuable lesson that I learned while I was employed there, was being honest and hard working would get you know where.

Why give up on today? It's never too late to start a new career, make a new friend, or start a new adventure right??? Remember your life is YOUR life...no one else's so make it count.

I've been in this situation n before and it is a tough transition. You apply for a job, interview goes well. You're excited and mentally are already a loyal staff member, in your head. You know you will be an asset for the company, now let the waiting commence. You find yourself hovering around the phone and jump every time it rings. You spend time researching the company to see if you missed something. Our minds keep us up at night with different scenarios. You pick out an outfit for the interview; then theres the reliving the interview and rethinking what you said or didn't say. Obsession sets in and you drive yourself into a frenzy. STOP!!! If it's meant to be so be it. By no means stop applying for jobs, look at the wording in the companies job description and reword it to put in your resume. Look at your resume. Did you have one done professionally? Did you personalize it for the specific job you're waiting for? We obsess over the changes, positive outcomes, schedule changes (especially in the medical field), hours, OT, call weekends,Holidays, commute times, kid schedules etc...Keep applying and personalizing your resume for the specific jobs you choose. Tale a class or do some CEUs related to the position you're applying for. Hang in there, don't play the "what if" or "would a,should a,could a" mind games. Keep plugging away. Read the tips from this blog site that you can identify with, and keep plugging away. Your worth will shine with an HR person and you'll be an exact match for the job that's meant to be. Best of luck for both of us.
