To land a job at #Kelly Education for Hillsborough County Public Schools I would make sure to...

I had worked for both Kelly Services & Hillsorough County Public Schools as a Sb in the past. It as a much lengthier process than I anticipated but it’s great having an advocate sou there ever be issues. Once I completed all the requirements, I selected a few schools close to my home. I worked the first one, then another & they were night & day… from the students to the administration. School #1 gives you a key, a booklet they give you each time with the schedule (that includes your particular planning period & lunch) a map of the campus with your assigned room, school policies & any notes for specific students with “safety plans”. Every teacher or administrator I came in contact ith always offered to help me & let me know I was appreciated there. The students were respectful (well, as respectful as middle schoolers can be, lol), eager to engage & overall a pleasure. School #2 was quite different. Over half of he students did speak ANY English (& I don’t speak Spanish). Administration gave me a key to the room & pointed on a map where it was I was to go. Even though this job was posted a couple days before, there was no lesson plan. No one, students or teachers seemed happy to be there. So I immediately changed my school preferences to just the one (& still could have worked every day). In sum- working for Kelly is great!! Being a substitute is great! If you happen to have a bad experience, try another school, there are many great ones. I got very lucky that a great one is so close to my home as I do not have my own vehicle & Uber to/from. Good luck! Happy subbing 😊!

So I have an appointment time of 4pm for my interview... How long should I wait before assuming it won't be happening?

2 senerios in the last week: #1... Phone interview scheduled for 1:45pm... Checked email, they were to Call Me. I waited, thinking they got hung up on a long call before me, or got busy, I waited. 2pm came and went and I got No phone call. I proceeded to email back the email I received "as a reminder" 2 hours prior to appt time. I have been ghosted and have not received a phone call or follow up email.

#2... Interview time 3ppm. I got there early as I was unsure where to go and didn't want to be late. I sat in an empty office and was able to here the interview mapping before mine. They were running behind. I sat and waited patiently for my turn. At 3:12pm I was called back for my interview. As I was being walked out after the appt, I was told that "that was an awesome interview..." I went to my car, and today received an offer from them.

But HOW LONG DO WE WAIT?

What a silly question... this is the problem with society. They have no direction - they think having shiny rocks (the reason humans like shiny is due to water glistening on the horizon) and fancy wheels (an invention from over 5,000 years ago? Give it a break...) is the reason to have a "job". Status... Ego...

All really wrong. You do stuff for passion. I recall Harry Chapin's (the "Cat's in the Cradle" dude) parents (of which Jim Chapin was a famous drummer and teacher) telling him that if he wanted to be a kazoo player, that was OK - just be the best kazoo player.

For instance - too many parents push their kids into what they now call "STEM". These kids have no interest, I deal with them all the time

  • an example: I recently had a grad from VA Tech in my lab - #2 grad of his class. I had a mic stand adapter sitting on the bench that I'd made - 5/8 - 27 internal thread I single pointed on a lathe.

So I told this kid about it and how it was great I had a ELS (electronic lead screw) to do it...

"Cool... how do you make threads?" he asks...

I was floored - my knee jerk reaction was, "Really?"

"Nope, they never taught us that..."

So I go into the office and talk to the 3 other ME's we just hired. The one girl mentioned (from Penn State), "No, not really. The only reason I know is my father owns a CNC/machine shop"

I recall sitting outside the freshman dorm waiting for my son after he walked his girlfriend up to her room. Saw a bunch of shiny faced freshmen walking by shouting "Party!!!"

Then it came to me - K-12 is state sponsored day First four years of college are indentured servitude.

Then I recalled my son being invited to attend "Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology" - yea the one Newsweek has rated the best in the country - and getting locked in after an open house , talking to the one teacher that had been there since the beginning - since the Asst. Superintendent set it up - NOT as a "status" thing, but as a model for ALL high schools in Fairfax County, VA.

What did he talk to use about for three hours? How bad it really is. How most of the kids are there for the parents to have some cocktail party fodder about how their "... little Joey or Lisa goes to TJHS..."

PINKY!

Do things for the right reason. Read my rant here: http://www.ajawamnet.com/ajawamnet/mama_i_wanna_be_a_maker.html

where at the end it explains the reasons for REALLY doing something:

From an interview by Scott London with Stephen Mitchell: http://www.scottlondon.com/interviews/mitchell.html

"Mitchell: There's a wonderful story about that in The Second Book of the Tao. It goes like this:

Ch'ing the master woodworker carved a bell stand so intricately graceful that all who saw it were astonished. They thought that a god must have made it. The Marquis of Lu asked, "How did your art achieve something of such unearthly beauty?"

"My Lord," Ch'ing said, "I'm just a simple woodworker — I don’t know anything about art. But here’s what I can tell you. Whenever I begin to carve a bell stand, I concentrate my mind.

After three days of meditating, I no longer have any thoughts of praise or blame. After five days, I no longer have any thoughts of success or failure. After seven days, I'm not identified with a body.

All my power is focused on my task; there are no distractions. At that point, I enter the mountain forest. I examine the trees until exactly the right one appears. If I can see a bell stand inside it, the real work is done, and all I have to do is get started. Thus I harmonize inner and outer. That's why people think that my work must be superhuman."

So you ask why I stayed?

'Cause I love what I do. Most want a million dollars to stop working - I want it to start.

Like maybe figuring out how gravity really works and design something to manipulate it.

THAT's why I stay at doing what I do.

Hope that answers your question...

Ok, so this all started LAST Tues, early morning, on the night shift. Night supv & I had a conversation regarding other people he had hired & subsequently fired. He described guys having beer on the cart (on which we pick up trash, from admin buildings on a college campus). He also told me of "fraternization" between one of our guys (we're sub-contractors) & a married female employee of the college. Moving on, another guy was mad & decided to ram a cart into a barrier on purpose. Yet, another guy got his job done so quickly, he'd run off to the female dorm & hang out w his girl (fraternization). Now comes my info. I was doing the trash run last Tues. About 1/2 way thru, I went to the compactor & dumped off what I had piled up. Resuming the rest of my run, I got to the last stop, tossed the trash in the back. I decided to go into the building & use the bathroom. I spoke to the lady cleaning the building, about which restroom I could use (as she was cleaning at the time). As I came out, she mentioned that she remembered me as a clerk from my prior job. Naturally, we spoke for a couple of minutes, establishing that fact. Here we go...next thing I see is this company truck pull right up to the building. The "night boss" supv gets out, storming up to the door, starts raising his voice..."What are you doing in here ?, You aren't authorized in here, get in the truck NOW, we talked about this, it's fraternization". So, I proceeded to explain that I had to use the restroom. "I don't care". Anyway, we got back to the office..."get your things together & leave, get out of here". I asked, "Just what does that mean ?" He replied, "You're fired, just leave". Now, some fun w this. 1: This supv signed out "Supv" swipe card #1. I was assigned Supv swipe card #2. If these buildings were "off limits" to me, why was I assigned a "Supv" swipe that gets me into any building our company personnel clean overnight ? How can he claim "fraternization" when it comes to a short conversation, between a member of our own company & me ? NOW, THE BIG BANGER !!! This douche admitted to me, he met his current wife on the job ! He is the night Supv & she normally issues out the keys & swipe cards to the oncoming shift. Hmm...fraternization there folks ???

I'm telling you the truth...

In life, you will encounter several opportunities:

#1. An opportunity to fulfill your purpose in life.

#2. Or, allow someone else to fulfill it before you.

#3. A opportunity to follow your dream in life.

#4. Or, allow someone else to win after you forfeit.

Listen, you have what it takes to make it. The only thing you have to do is demonstrate "a measure of faith."

Then, everything else will fall-in-place for you.

I Believe You Can...!

BELIEVE AND ACHIEVE! #2. Stop Blaming Yourself. [IBYC]

I'm telling you the truth...(Must Read w/o Fail.)

The most commonly minded thing we do today is, "blame ourselves" for those rugged experiences of the past.

Yes we...

  • Made costly mistakes.
  • Said some things that were wrong.
  • Had a variety of distasteful moments.
  • Held on to shady so-called friendships.
  • Made some unwise decisions along the way.
  • Said hello, when we should have said goodbye.

Listen, don't keep blaming yourself for the past, you can't change it. However, you can rearrange new things to serve your best interest at-hand.

When you stop blaming yourself, and start claiming for yourself the things you want, then, everything else will fall-in-place for you.

I Believe You Can...!

BELIEVE AND ACHIEVE! #2. Don't Underestimate Yourself. [IBYC]

I'm telling you the truth...

"If you live your life according to other people's opinions and influences set upon you; one day you will wake-up and not recognize yourself." ~Edward Alexander

Don't underestimate yourself, push forward then everything else will fall-in-place for you.

I'm telling you the truth...

Here are two critical factors you need to know. Why? Because the more you know, creates multiple bridges for you to grow.

No. #1. "Your mindset creates the Points, Pathways, Prisons or Promises that you eventually will live." ~Edward Alexander

No, #2. "Your life usually follows the direction of the words you speak." ~Edward Alexander

Use you imagination, then everything else will fall-in-place.

I Believe You Can...!
