East Oregonian is really an easy going job, and it can be a lot of fun. However, if you're looking to be a paper carrier, I'm sorry to inform you that the position is no longer available. All newspapers have been delivered by mail since November 2017 because it's much cheaper and efficient. Otherwise, I definitely encourage you to take a look.

The biggest mistake I've made at the East Oregonian was being late. Your customers want to be able to enjoy their morning coffee with a morning paper, and you're responsible for that. If you're thinking it's not a big deal and you can get away with just a couple late papers, you're wrong. There are customers that will call the company, and your manager will know. Don't make petty mistakes.

It's tough being a paper carrier, though I know it doesn't sound hard. When you have school the same days you work, you usually want to work afterward, right? As a paper carrier who has to walk across town for delivery, you need to be up at about 4:00 AM. Saturdays were the worst. Because there are no papers on Sunday or Monday, the Saturday papers are loaded and heavy. 10¢ per paper isn't exactly the best either, but otherwise it's a great job.

I happened to miss a house at East Oregonian on top of being late that day, and neither my boss nor customer were very happy, but if you want to keep your job, you bite your tongue, accept your mistakes, and learn. Sometimes you just have to give yourself a little push. I apologized, delivered the paper, and all was well.

My favorite thing about working as a paper carrier for East Oregonian was the peaceful morning walk, the sweet old golden retriever that greeted me each day, and the disabled kitten that grew to enjoy my company each morning. I loved seeing the life of the morning when all the animals were beaming with happiness and no one was there to bother you.
