I just applied for a job on LinkedIn, which told me the position was posted 16 hours ago, and it already had 73 applicants. I went on an interview last week where 100 were chosen, and only 10 were selected. Last Monday, for another job, 50 were interviewed and only 5 were selected. Sometimes you feel you should not be born before 1990, or have more experience than the age of the interviewer.

I feel I have dug myself into a hole. I worked as a senior client services administrator at a wealth management company until late 2013.. my 13 year old daughter tragically ended her life and because of the grief, despair, depression and anxiety I was unable to continue in an office environment. Around a year later, I was finally able to lift my head up out of the darkness and started bartending at two different places. I'm wanting to get back into administration but feel my being a bartender for the past 4 years gets my resume thrown right into the NO pile. Any suggestions? Thank you for reading.

I've applied for just about every job on every single job search website that remotely fits my resume. Some I've sought out, others I've gotten in job alert emails. I even get calls from recruiters offering me jobs that I am very clearly under-qualified for but they ask me for details and information to pursue and set something up for anyway (and I figure, why not?).

Some of the ones I'm applying for I feel like I match what they're looking for perfectly and yet haven't heard a thing from any of them, except one outright rejection which was no big deal, there's still the other 30 jobs I'd applied for. If a job posted THAT DAY and I apply within the first 48 hours, should I expect to wait longer than a week or two to even hear about the possibility for a first or a phone interview? I'm just wondering if this is normal or.. should I apply again to the same jobs with a resume I edited? I had gotten one of those resume reviews that suggested I change it up, so I did, and now I'm wondering if my old resume is better and it's a lot to think about! Thanks.

I recently made it through a first and a second phone interview with 2 different people for a well known Veterinary Hospital. Both interviews seemed to go well and it would actually be a stepping stone toward my dream job. My 2nd phone interview was 7 days ago and at the of the interview I was told that she would like to set me up with a working interview of sorts so that I could see what the Client Coordinator position consists of. (I actually already know but I’ll do whatever I need to do in order to follow the hiring process and get the job, I really want it!) She told me that the Practice Manager I did my first interview with would be the contacting me but I haven’t heard anything from either of them. I did a “just following up”! Email to the 1st interviewer on Tuesday and have gotten no response, I called and left a message saying Thank you and following up with the 2nd interviewer yesterday (Friday) I was told she would call me back and she didn’t either. which I know may have been too pushy maybe. The 2 people I interviewed with are in different states, holding different positions. They both seemed so positive towards me and the second one, who lives in my state and I’m assuming would be the closest contact person for the veterinary hospital even said she wanted to get me set up with a working interview and that the first person who interviewed me would be in contact with me early in the week. That was last week. Should I just mark this one up as done and over? I just want to know one way or another. I would have thought they would have at least sent an email or letter saying I didn’t get the job. Myself and the Practice Manager have both invested almost a month of emails and phone calls for this position. What do I do?

For most of the last 16 years, I have built a career as a branch/store manager with different companies in the building materials industry. However, the last of those companies I worked for closed my branch at the end of 2018. I immediately began a search for a new position but nothing presented itself right away so I took a commission only sales position with a local roofer to gain some new skills and see the other side of the business. I have continued my job search under the impression companies would be happy to see a professional take a leap into something new and come away with even more skills than previously acquired. However, in the last couple of months I have had more companies turn down my applications than I ever have previously. I am not certain what the exact reasons are as I mostly get generic responses that the search is now focused on other candidates and I was not chosen. The only thing I can assume is that because I have broadened my search to include companies outside of the building materials industry that in some way this must be the reason for denials. That I do not have enough experience in their particular fields or industries. I have a bachelor's degree. I have taken certifications to help further my career. And I have now worked as both a supply chain professional as well as a contractor. I am a true professional in the construction industry. However, management is management. It's about getting the most production out of your staff to meet company goals. I have no criminal record, a clean DMV, no issues with previous employers as I always leave a company in good standing. I even have multiple recruiters that have contacted me and still no luck. I'm just kind of at a loss at to what might be the problem. I am completely surprised at this job search.

I dont get it. I got rejected again. They loved my passion but no offer. What am I doing wrong? I am acclaimed in my field. Just turned 50. 2 degrees. Working on my Masters. All my roles were progressively upward. Am I being blackballed? I remain prayerful.

Gosh guys, we post our resume online and it goes to many databases but who is reviewing them is a mystery and when you get an email saying that some company is interested and you click that icon and it goes to some other websites and it is like the infinity loop. There has to be a better system that is more effecient and get better results. It has been a very challenging and sometimes frustrating experience. I have a Business ADmin Degree from Ashford university which was recent in nov of 2017 and graduated with honors too. I have experience but unable to get propoer interviews in my field of study and experience. I have no rational idea why as to the way this process is going on. We have so many jobs being posted in Cali but who is filling them up. I tried some consulting agencies, temp ones and they only take laborers and clerical base level jobs. Please suggest me something and I will sure appreciate your response and inputs. Unless you are called for an interview, how can one impress them?

Here is a profoundly quick but penetrating, revolutionary 4-part series on the postmodern reality employers need to understand and recruit REAL people with honest experience. The wide disconnect between employer fantasy expectations versus candidate credentials has droned on in the marketplace far too long enough. The loss of the middle class among American employees can't withstand the debts, pain and insecurities anymore. Spread awareness now and become part of the solution. Part 1: Human Archetypes. Part 2: Myth-Busting. Part 3: Who Can You Trust?. Part 4: Attraction Etiquette. #EmployerBlackHole https://geniuscareer.home.blog/2019/03/15/recruiting-the-right-job-candidate-part-1-human-archetypes/
