I have been unemployed for 3 Months and have put out over 50 applications during this period. I was in the Automotive Industry for 33 years. I began with the company when I was 20 years old. I worked for this company for 22 years in management and purchased the business in 2006. We went through the recession of 2008 and never really recovered from it. I owned 6 retail locations and had a administrative management company that ran the operations. I was always hands on and lead by example. I sold the business and walked away with nothing. (Long Story). I am in search of a new career and have looked in and outside my industry. I have a High School Diploma and have always worked very hard for 33 years to move up to the top of my industry. So far no one has interest in me. I have my resume on all the job site websites, LinkedIn and have a headhunter and temp agencies helping me. I need and want to get back to work now. Any thought or suggestions?

Given the fact that I can offer fifteen years of: life cycle cost analysis, team collaboration, project management, quality control or assurance and auditing of both commercial and residential energy systems the only remaining true value I can bring is support and harmony to your team dynamic.

Lost my job after 17 years, although there seems to be a lot of job openings in my field, I've not had an interview. I've been using Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, QuarkXpress most of my career and know them better then most. In the last 6 months I've been taking Web Development courses, Dreamweaver and a really fun program called Captivate. Far from being a pro in them but I'm ready to build smaller web sites without the ecommerce part. Once I have a few sites built it won't be long and I will soar! Examples of my work can be seen at http://www.graphicdesires.net. Thanks!

Hi everyone,
My name is Jess, I'm 40 and a single Mom of 2....funny how that opening statement makes a huge difference when looking for a job. Obviously, in an interview you never state that you're a single mom (both of them teens) but being my age and unemployed is very depressing! I started as an administrative assistant in Europe when I was 19 and I've worked my way to an Executive Assistant. Therefore, I have a bit over 20 years experience. I master Word, Excel, PowerPoint, outlook, Concur.....but it is so hard to find a good paying, normal hours job!!! When I interview, it goes so good that I am certain that I have walked out with the job and then it turns out that they went with the recent graduate that has no experience and half the salary. Mind you, I'm not asking for anything crazy, benefits for my children and I. If possible, a salary in the mid 50's would be great. I'm fully bilingual and have much experience but it seems that I'm too old for anything I apply for. This is very discouraging and have only been able to temp from site to site for the past 6 months. I know I need to stay positive but when the bank tells me that I'm behind on my mortgage (because I didn't know) and all for not being able to find a steady job....makes it more depressing.
Anyone have any ideas, please?
Thanks!!

Hello Everyone,
I am in a situation where I want to migrate back home to the USA, and have been trying to obtain employment to no avail. I have been working abroad for about the last 9 years (it is were I have obtained most of my work experience). I have a Bachelors and Masters and a vast amount of experience, but my job search hasn't been successful.
Does anyone has any pointers on how I can improve my chances? If there are any HR persons willing to have a look at my resume and offer advice, I am more than willing to send that information forward. I want to ensure that is not something of my own doing that is limiting my chances.
I look forward to your feedback.
