On two separate occasions I was stood up on an interview. One company required me to send them my portfolio after some back and forth emails and finally scheduled me for an interview call a week later, when the time rolled around - no call. So I sent an email follow-up asking about the schedule. No response for the next 4 hours and suddenly I get an email saying they were "sorry" but the women who was supposed to call me got "busy"..... and if I could do the call now. Well I couldn't and I honestly stopped checking my emails after the 4 hours of no response so I guess it was on me that I missed my second window. I followed up again asking to reschedule and got a response saying they filled the position a few days later. OKAY, so I moved on and kept applying to other jobs.... This next one required a long design project to be done, plus my portfolio and a one hour phone interview which I thought went well. During the interview the women asked me if I could make time tomorrow to meet the CEO in person at 2-3pm, (she also asked me to dress-up and look nice as previous candidates didn't) I said yes I could and waited for her confirmation email that evening. It never came, nor did it come the next morning so I made sure I was ready to go, since its a long commute for me to their office and followed up via email asking for the time she'd like to meet.....again no answer until 3pm saying the CEO doesn't feel well and she'll follow up later! Again a week has gone by and I haven't heard anything.

What is going on with these companies? Where is the professionalism? The worst part is both these companies are pretty well known and have been around for a while so you would think they would be more responsible with their own time as well as applicants time? Plus why not let the applicate (me) know early on in the day that, hey we have to move the interview instead of waiting on a followup email?

It really gets to me because you cut time out of your day (and energy) to do these interviews as well as the projects they give you (as a designer) and then treat it like nothing. Ive honestly never experienced this in the past while job hunting, have you? and if you have, did you reach out and tell them your displeasure? ( I kind of want to even though I know its not the best idea to burn bridges haha)

Please be sure to check a mirror before heading into the interview. Have you ironed your clothes, is hygiene up to par? Hair combed? Teeth brushed? Etc...Do you feel good about yourself? Confidence is important.

You are representing your brand of you. First impressions still matter.

A firm handshake, but not too firm. Don't try to overpower your interviewer.

A follow-up notecard in a nice envelope if you can. If not, an email thanking your interviewer(s) is sufficient.

And take notes...but don't stare at your paper. Eye contact also matters! #jobsearch #interview #wordsofadvice #application #followup #inspiration

Remember, the interview goes both ways so have some questions prepared and always research the company that you are interviewing for.

Good luck and try to enjoy the process! #advice

I had applied at a job in my dream field of work, and I got an email back saying that they are reviewing my application. I got super excited but then when I called the company the lady "passed it along" and I never got an answer back. when I continued my job search, I saw SEVERAL ads for the same job.... at the same locations I preferred. UGH!! #jobsearch #followup

I was offered a job about four weeks ago now, which I was quite excited about! It pays very well, in an industry that I would love to be a part of. I think I can do the job itself very well with my qualifications.

The problem is, it's been four weeks since the offer! I understand the procedures as far as background checks go in this industry are INCREDIBLY thorough. but I have just about run through my savings in order to pay for living expenses. I don't have ANY criminal history or negative work experience. All of my references were called and they all gave good reviews of who I am. I just don't know how much longer I can reasonably wait and keep on the surface as far as finances go. I really don't want to pursue other jobs, and I've turned down about four other opportunities as it is after I got the offer. But if this goes on for much longer I just don't know if I'll be able to hold out and survive! I've reached out, and they assured me the process just took some time. That they were just waiting on references and one more thing that I turned in promptly after. I'm worried about contacting them again. Would it appear unprofessional to reach out again? I'm not sure what else to do... #advice #joboffer #jobsearch #followup

I did a job interview foe a different company and I was so nervous because there was 3 people interviewing me at once and I thought it went OK. But I haven't heard anything back and it's been 10 business days. Does that mean I didn't get the job. Every time I look to see if anything changed on application staues it says in process. So can someone please tell me. Thanks #interview #followup #advice

Unfortunately some companies will not contact you if they choose someone else. They may still be interviewing others and have not made a decision yet. Don't put all your eggs in one basket and keep searching.

This one hurt my pride a bit. Met the owner, interview went well, owner said he wanted me to walk the area I’d be working with the general manager. Interview went from thirty minutes to almost an hour and a half as the general manager the owner and I talked. Was told they may not be able to meet how much I was asking for but wanted to make me an offer. At the end of the interview we shook hands and I was told I’d get a call within the next day or so (it was Thursday afternoon so I figured maybe Monday or Tuesday)… three weeks go by, I shoot the owner an email but get no response. So I’m at a loss. #interview #advice #followup #jobsearch
