I became unemployed back in January. I sent out my resume to well over 100 places and was called back to three. I really wanted to work in the veterinary profession, but I’m not licensed as a tech.
I was actually ready to give up when I saw that one of my favorite fast food restaurants were hiring. I applied to the five closest locations and recently got hired.
I’m 36 and had a consistent work history of ~13 years. But, finally, after nearly 8 months, I have work. I’m excited to get back to the workforce. I have fur children to take care of that I depend on for emotional and mental health.

***UPDATE-SEE UPDATE BELOW ***
After a month of applications the last 2 weeks have been wonderful. I’ve had several interviews, 3 more scheduled and so far 1 job offer. I have feeling I may be offered 1 or 2 more.
I’ve had to be submitted to jobs paying $12,000-$16,000/yr less than what I’ve made in the past. That’s $6-$8/hr less! I guess that’s to be expected after being unemployed for over a year.
What are your thoughts on taking a pay cut to get in the door?
Regardless, I’m feeling blessed.
UPDATEUPDATEUPDATE All interviews went great. I’ve received multiple job offers. 3 offers and expecting 1 more. Could this be leveraged to negotiate my salary? Would you mention the other offers to the each employer?

I just got offered a job July 31st of this year and I did my background check drug test and physical test and the lady said she was gonna call me back after she got everything back and I took all my test before August 5th and my background check was already sent to the company . I still haven’t had any phone call I even called them yesterday and call them today left voicemail and still haven’t heard anything . Should I just say screw it ? It feels like they just played me

I have been looking for months for a job and I was beginning to get discouraged when a job, it's a retail job offered to hire me. I accepted but havent gone for the orientation yet but the date is scheduled. The same day I accepted I received two other interviews one of which I really would like. How would I tell the original job that I no longer want the job? Of course I wont tell them anything if I dont get the job at the place I really want. Help. I'm not usually the type to reneg on a deal. Thank you in advance for your help.

Opinons or suggestions: I was recently awarded an offer for a position with Parks and wildlife department in IT, after about a month of waiting for a decision, they finally made me an offer for the job based on stating I was their #1 choice. Then I was instructed to get my background check done at a 3rd party fingerprinting company. after getting a clear background check I was then waiting on my start date which should have been immediately, but I was told by the recruiting company that the parks and wildlife department HR did a second background check and apparently something came up that "they didn't like" after that I was apparently dropped, because they never got back to my recruiter with a start date, nor would they return any inquiries to the recruiting companies hiring manager. So first of all, why would they run a 2nd background check after a fingerprint check came back clear. In my experience if there is ever any dispute with a normal background check you are instructed to get fingerprinted to verify incase of identity theft of any other confusion with another person of the same name. Second, why would a place like parks and wildlife not return any calls after I was already offered the job? Lastly, I just received several emails from other recruiting companies that the same position I was offered, is now open again. Any thoughts or suggestions?

A company took me to lunch and offered me a position. I accepted the next day. It’s been two week since I’ve heard from them. I emailed them and they said they would contact me soon. Been about a week. It is a manager position.

I am 60 years old. I am a baby boomer with too much education, I made too much money and I had to settle for 30K less than I was making before. I now make only 1/3 of what I made before the recession hit. It amazes me that in 2019 experience and and education does not translate to $$$. There is age discrimination and for the first time in my career, I have experienced it. FYI

Have you ever got hired on right away just to get stuff to stop you from starting it suck royally doesn't it?

CT Works Vet Reps set me up an employer. Doing something ever so slightly outside the box of my main profession of CNC multi-axis Programming & set-up [23plus yrs exp.] But due to both a severe back injury in '96 and a continuous battle with Combat PTSD/Depression. I Was disabled by the VA hospital for all this time. So I was honored to be given a chance to enter the workforce again. As a Tooling Tech Supervisor, initiating a computer based inventory management system and coming up with efficient means of managing tooling specific to individual jobs. This calls for "team work" by integrating new systems with the existing one's that the employees still use. In other words they needed a good NCO who knows tools; tooling; assembly & machine rebuilding work as well as maintenance. Gave me a good starting rate (I'm 66 in great shape, Marine) Gonna start Monday 25+hrs per week and build up to full time. I say all this to say to you all DON'T GET DISCOURAGED. YOU HAVE VALUE... SOMEONE WILL RECOGNIZE IT! DON'T GIVE UP! GOD DOES HAVE A PLAN

I interviewed for a job 3 weeks ago...they hired me a week ago but they still can't give me a start date. Meanwhile Im stuck in limbo with no income. Would it be ethical fpr me to tell them Im not waiting any longer and they can go string someone else along?
