Here are the Jobcasers of the Week!

Deshander Dawkins, follow and connect with Deshander here - Want to learn how to make more money in the #hospitality service industry? Deshander has some insider tips you need to know…

“Well as far as my experience, I was able to get the rooms that the other employees didn't want and or show up for. I also learned how to do my own laundry and maintain my rooms, which was impressive to my manager at the time. The weekends are also busy so it wouldn't be a bad idea to let your boss know you are available morning, noon, and night. If you make yourself available you will get the hours you want.”

Gary Lukens, follow and connect with Gary here - Did you know that the national average salary for Electricians in 2022 is $26.92/hr according to glassdoor. But what are the required skills needed to land this job? Gary has some skills training suggestions…

“Depends on the state and the job. Hard rock mines don’t require a licensed electrician. If you’re looking at residential work go see your local IBEW electrical union. It’s between a 4 and 5-year apprenticeship program.”

Yvone Mondragon, follow and connect with Yvone here - Are you still waiting for a call back from a #UPS hiring manager? Yvone has a brief break-down of the companies application follow-up & hiring process…

“Hi, honestly that may vary depending on the HR or Recruiter responsible for the position. I’ve always reached out or followed up 1-2 weeks after I applied for a job if I haven’t heard anything back from HR. Right now, UPS is doing a lot of hiring for the holiday season, which for UPS, goes past New Year’s Day. So they may be loaded with applications.”

Robert Westfall, follow and connect with Robert here - ADHD is a serious health concern but it doesn’t have to be a good employment limitation. Overcome any #disability hiring obstacles with Robert's insightful and encouraging words of advice…

“I know a few people who have ADHD, even within my own family, and I've seen them do amazingly well with things they enjoy. One sister, who still lives like me in our parent's home, is GREAT at both art and writing, although she does need to have some help in spelling things out. I recommend you find something you yourself are good or great a. If it turns out to be a skill that’s in high demand or able to be sold/marketed in any form, THEN you can try going into that marketing scheme. But the first step would be to find a skill, talent, ability, or passion that works FOR YOU and not AGAINST YOU. Any disability can become a strength if you learn to hone those things that it offers you.”

Shirley Bratton, follow and connect with Shirley here - Shirley, recently guided one of our community members on how to find and highlight the best in-demand skills needed to successfully land a Collectors job…

For #retail collection...be nice to your customers...try to make settlement offers... Commercial collections speak directly with the accounts payable team...make sure you have a good report with accounts payable and email invoices....always call your customers and clients...not just send emails.

Please join us in extending warm and heartfelt Congratulations to all the JCOW Winnersfor their continued member support and encouragement within our community. Thank you.

Happy Holiday & Enjoy your $100 Reward!

HAVE YOU EVER CREATED A NEW MENU ITEM??

On my recent Brunch Post, I referenced our Giant Bloody Mary Bar, but was also thinking a lot about the Brunch Menu as well! 🍓🧇🫐🥞 (Maybe I’m a little hungry!) 🤤 I may be biased, but my favorite Brunch Menu item at the Craft Beer Bar where I worked, was a dish I had created myself!! ☺️

After months of serving folks brunch and tracking their preferences, I made some suggestions to the Chef and came up with a variation of our delectable Chicken and Waffles!! 🫑🧇🌶🍗 We called it Phoebe’s Southwest Chicken and Waffles, and it was a top seller!! 🍽

Our fried chicken and waffles were already a popular item, and I suggested a spicy twist where they would add jalapeños, cheddar cheese, and bacon to the waffles as well! 🫑🧇🥓🧀 It came with fried chicken on top, a sweet compound butter, and hot sauce infused maple syrup! 🍗🧈🌶🍁 I sold about a thousand of them during my time there, and saw a lot of yelp reviews about our amazing menu items and brunch service! ☺️ 📝

I’ve contributed to more dishes and drinks in a zillion different ways, in my decade in the Industry, as I am sure we all have! 🍹🥗🥘🍰 I know it’s the tweaks and adjustments that the staff and regular customers make to the menu over time, that creates part of their impact and legacy in that Restaurant! 🎂

HOW HAVE YOU CONTRIBUTED TO THE RESTAURANTS YOU’VE WORKED AT OVER THE YEARS AND THEIR MENUS?? HAVE YOU EVER CREATED A NEW MENU ITEM OR HAD ONE NAMED AFTER YOU?? WHAT WOULD YOUR SIGNATURE DISH BE??

(This Pic is not the EXACT dish, but it's close!) 💛🤤

YOGA: THE ESSENTIAL FULL BODY CARE WE ALL NEED!

I know it’s quick to cause an eye roll, 🙄 and easy to brush off and ignore in this fast paced world! ⏲ 🏃🏽‍♂️ Most of us feel like we don’t have time to stretch even for 5 minutes, let alone lay out a yoga mat and take an entire half hour class. 🧘🏽‍♂️🧘🏻‍♀️

However YOGA can be a wonderful way to prepare yourself for many kinds of work, not just physically demanding jobs. 🙆🏻‍♂️ Since so many of us are using our bodies as part of our daily work, 📦🏃 it becomes an important part of getting ready for the day itself, to make sure we invest in this kind of self care. It can also help prevent and heal existing injuries, and keep us safer in the future! 🤕🦵🫁☺️

Yoga improves blood flow, posture, joint strength, and mental health all in one!! 🩸🫀🧠 ✨ It can lead to more mindfulness, more patience with ourselves and others, and a greater confidence to handle, and tolerance for, challenges in our lives. 🤩🧘🏽‍♂️🤩

I find that it physically moves stress that is built up in my body over the course of a shift, and releases that tension. 🌀 Doing it regularly also gave me more stamina, more energy, and helped me feel more clear and alert during the day - not to mention sleep better at night! ⚡️😴 🛌

HAVE YOU EVER TRIED YOGA AS A WAY TO COPE WITH WORK STRESS? DO YOU EXHAUST YOUR BODY AT WORK AND NEED RELIEF AFTER?? HAVE YOU EVER TRIED ANY OTHER STRETCHING OR EXERCISE ROUTINE THAT HAS HELPED??

FOR MORE TIPS AND TRICKS TO HELP YOU COPE WITH THE DIFFICULTY OF A PHYSICALLY ACTIVE JOB, CHECK OUT SOME OF THE JOBCASE GROUPS RELATED TO YOUR PROFESSION. RESTAURANT AND HOSPITALITY SUPERSTARS, DELIVERY HEROES, RETAIL SUPERSTARS, AND MORE!! 💙✨

SMALLER GROUPS ON JOBCASE ARE A WONDERFUL WAY TO SEEK OUT ADVICE OR GUIDANCE AND ASK ANY QUESTIONS YOU HAVE ABOUT BREAKING INTO THAT INDUSTRY!!

BRUNCH SHIFTS: DO YOU LIKE WORKING SUNDAY MORNING??

At a Craft Beer Brewery 🍻 where I used to work in Cleveland, Ohio - we were famous for our Sunday Brunch Menu and Bloody Mary Bar! 🍅🍳🫒☕️

I’d like to think that part of the reason it was such a hit, was because my Manager and I were a fantastic team who loved a busy, happy shift! 👯‍♀️💓👯‍♀️ We diligently put HOURS into setting up the Restaurant and Bloody Mary Bar very early every Sunday morning, and worked our butts off every shift! 🏃🏻‍♀️🍹🥗🌶🥓

I would often come in before my shift technically started, and start setting up without clocking in, because I cared so much about how prepared we were. ⏰ I knew that taking the time to set aside backups of the ingredients we would use the most of, 🫒 stuff blue cheese olives (the WORST!), 🧀 restock extra mixers or vodka, 🍅 roll as much silverware as possible, 🍽 refill every tables sauces,🥫and do anything the night shift had neglected - was essential!! 🧹🍾🍽 🫖 🍻

I know most of you probably LOVE eating Brunch, but how do you feel about serving Breakfast?? 🥞 ☕️ 🥣 The endless coffee refills, patrons drinking 2-4 drinks at a time, when they want water, booze and caffeine simultaneously, and the pace required to make sure eggs and toast arrive hot - is not for the faint hearted.🥛🍳🍹🍇 Neither is carrying a coffee pot in one hand and three plates in another! 🫖

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT WORKING IN THE MORNING?? DO YOU LIKE SERVING OR BARTENDING DURING SUNDAY BRUNCH?? HAVE YOU EVER SET UP A BLOODY MARY BAR??

IS THE CUSTOMER REALLY ALWAYS RIGHT?!?

This debate has only gotten more INFLAMED ❤️‍🔥 since the Pandemic started, and this tug of war was plenty tense enough before it felt life threatening! 🦠 I truly wonder how this idea even got started, because if you think about it, a Customer knowing more about how to make a decision for a Business they’re a patron of, doesn’t make much sense at all. 🤔

I think there are some situations where the Customer may know what they want more than a Customer Service Representative does, but that doesn’t mean they are entitled to get it necessarily. 😱😮‍💨😱

I think the Job of someone working in #FoodServices, #Hospitality, or #Retail is definitely to make their Customers as satisfied as they reasonably can. 🥰 So sometimes that means a compromise, 🤝 between what the Establishment can offer, and what the Customer really wants! 🍕🥗🍹🍰 👚

Say for example a Patron at a Restaurant was unhappy with the way their entree tasted, and they would prefer it to be taken off the bill and replaced, by something else.🍝 One way to compromise with them would be to offer to bring them another entree, and take off half of the price of original entree or perhaps comp a drink or two, instead of the full price of a dinner main meal. 🍹 That way you can save the Restaurant some $ on food cost, while also keeping the unhappy diner feeling like their complaint was heard! 🍷🧾 💸

Obviously there are situations where the Customer is going to get exactly what they are asking for, were right all along, and have a fair request. ☺️ Working in Customer Service means a balance between the interests of the Business itself, and making those who actually purchase the product feel they are getting a good deal, while having the need that drew them in met. 💸 ☕️

I love making my Patrons happy, and have bent over backwards, sacrificed my own personal needs, and gone sky high above and beyond to give them everything they wanted. 🌠 Sometimes they are grateful, sometimes they feel that is required part of the job for those who work in Customer Service.

I can think of plenty of times where the Customer was WRONG and still got everything they wanted, despite it all. 😮‍💨 Thats because every Business NEEDS folks to feel like they got what they came for in the first place, and have the desire to come back again soon. Even if that means giving away a freebie, or meeting an outrageous request!💰🤑

DO YOU FEEL THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT, NO MATTER WHAT? WHEN IS A TIME YOU’VE GONE ABOVE AND BEYOND FOR A PATRON?? CAN YOU NAME A SITUATION WHERE THE CUSTOMER WAS COMPLETELY WRONG AND GOT WHAT THEY WANTED ANYWAY?? ✨ 🤔

FOR MORE THREADS ABOUT THE JOYS AND DIFFICULTIES OF WORKING IN THE #FOODSERVICES INDUSTRY, CONSIDER JOINING THE JOBCASE RESTAURANT AND HOSPITALITY SUPERSTARS GROUP!! ITS A PLACE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY, AND EVERYTHING THAT COMES WITH IT! WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOU!! 💓✨

Hotel Property Management Systems 🖥

If you are looking into getting into the hotel 🏨 industry and you have a interest in working at the front desk or a supervisor/managerial role👩🏽‍💼🧑🏽‍💼; 📣 I would suggest you work for a hotel that has one of the more popular property management systems. For example: Opera or Fosse. Listen 👂🏽closely….EXPERIENCE/familiarity is everything in the hotel industry! Hilton uses Opera & Marriott uses Fosse… wherever you go, if you know either of these PMS’s, you should always be able to get a job 😁

Even if a lot of time has passed and you don’t remember how to use the system, it will come back to you! TRUST ME… I work at a Marriott currently, I was kind of nervous about using Fosse⌨️ because I hadn’t used it in 10 years😫! After the 3rd day, my fingers were moving without me having to focus on what I was doing 💪🏾 #motivation #jobsearch #Hotel #PMS #Hospitality #Technology #Marriott #Hilton

Service industries like hospitality and tourism need managers who are skilled in human resources management, as profits within this industry are driven by the people working in them. Your HR skills are definitely transferable to most business roles, particularly in the public sector. HR requires a talent for identifying and resolving problems.

Let the skills that you already have go to work for you you're already in human services and that requires customer service skills dealing with the public things like the address for tourism does so you take your skills that you have and convert those skills over to the travel agency or whatever you want to do hospitality or if motels hotels things like that you already got the customer service you already got to see a human resources going on so use that to your ability and you'll find out that you get hired more often than not on the skills you already have
