While I like to stay positive, lately it has been more and more a build up of days gone by searching and not seeing any results. The biggest fear is that I will end up the first job that's offered since we don't have any income coming in and no help from any government agency. I hope someone out there will appreciate my experience and give me an opportunity with reasonable pay.

Being a successful job seeker takes more than just sending out resumes daily. It requires focus, dedication, and perseverance. To be successful and stand out among other job seekers, you need to focus on both job search tasks and building relationships with people who can help you in your search.

Creating a plan and outlining important tasks is key to staying organized and focused during your job search. And you’ll be able to ensure that you’re practicing healthy self-care habits by creating a schedule that includes time away from your job search.

It is also essential to build a robust support system of family, friends, or even a professional career coach. These people will be crucial in providing encouragement and helping you stay positive throughout your job search. By taking the time to focus on both task-oriented and people-oriented activities, you will be well on your way to landing your ideal flexible job.

Daily Job-Seeking Tasks There’s no denying that job hunting can be daunting, especially if you’re not sure where to begin or you weren’t anticipating being on the hunt for a new job. However, by taking some time to organize your job search before you start, you can ensure that you’re making the most of your time and effort.

You’ll be able to focus your efforts and make sure that you’re making progress each day. As you progress, you’ll be able to identify any patterns and make necessary adjustments to your approach. Taking a systematic approach to your job search can exponentially increase your chances of success.

— Staying Job Search Ready If you are actively job searching, you probably know how important it is to have a solid personal brand. Your brand combines your skills, experience, and values that make you unique. It sets you apart from other candidates and helps you land the job you want.

Your brand also includes your online presence in today’s digital world. Potential employers will likely google your name before inviting you to an interview, so it’s vital to ensure that your online presence supports your job search goals.

Create or update your LinkedIn profile. Have an adaptable and easily tailored cover letter and resume. Update social media channels to reflect your search progress and brand. Stay focused on the future. Don’t let job status (or lack thereof) define you. Take care of your health with breaks, days off, and healthy daily habits. Take time to find enjoyment daily, as a positive attitude will convey in your interactions. Approach your job search tasks with a spirit of gratitude. Have an up-to-date career development plan so you can answer open-ended questions. Manage your website or portfolio by posting new content that showcases current skills. Stay active in your industry and continue growing your skill set. Consider freelancing or volunteering to add value to your resume when you’re seeking a career change. — Searching for Open Jobs Landing your dream job takes more than just submitting a few applications and crossing your fingers. In today’s competitive job market, you need to be proactive in your search and treat it like a job itself. That means setting daily goals and sticking to a targeted schedule.

Dedicate a few hours each day to scouring a legitimate job board and company websites, possibly having a few different versions of your resume ready to tailor, and thoroughly researching each company’s culture. Quantity will rarely beat quality when it comes to your job search.

Research companies thoroughly to discover the culture that will be an excellent fit for you in the long-term. Search using multiple methods, like keywords, job titles, company names, industries, skills, and flexibility. Treat job searching as your job with a set schedule. Ask for help and feedback from professional friends, family, and job search professionals. Target companies that mirror your values. Have a job search strategy, rather than just winging it. Plan out each day, acknowledging your three most important tasks for the day. Set intentions and goals for each day and each week. Prioritize job search tasks so that even less enjoyable ones are completed. Research and learn new skills that target a dream job or company. Discover opportunities in other fields to which you could transfer your skills. — Responding to Job Postings One of the most important things to remember when applying for jobs is that you need to tailor your applications to each specific job posting. This can seem like a lot of work, but taking the time to personalize your submissions will pay off in the long run.

In addition to getting past applicant tracking systems (ATS), you also want to make it as easy as possible for recruiters to see why your experience makes you the best candidate for the position. Highlighting specific examples of how your skills and experience match the job requirements will go a long way in getting your application noticed.

Respond with confidence. Go above and beyond the basic requirements to make an impression. Invest time to ensure that you’ve fully tailored each submission to the job posting. Schedule follow-ups to help catch a recruiter’s attention. Send out thank-you notes. Prepare and practice for interviews. Manage a spreadsheet of companies and jobs you have applied to. Research your worth in a job you’re interested in so you’re ready to negotiate salary. Ask for feedback if you don’t get a job you were eager for. — Continually Growing Your Network It can’t be overstated that networking is a critical component of job searching. During your job search, you’ll want to ensure that you’re devoting time to growing your network with your dream companies, your industry, and your references. Doing this will increase the chances that you’ll hear about job openings that fit your skills and interests, and you’ll be top of mind when it comes time to make a hiring decision.

In addition, networking can help you develop relationships with people who can provide valuable insights and advice as you navigate your job search.

Keep and stay connected to a job search team. Find a career mentor or coach. Reach out to established connections and let them know you’re looking for a new position. Continually build your network connections with informational interviews. Stay connected to job references. Search for referrals from previous coworkers. Stay active in groups on LinkedIn and other online spaces, such as alumni associations and industry forums. Maintain the resources and tools needed for job searching. Manage your calendar and time to ensure that online networking tasks don’t overtake your entire day. Creating Job Search Success Job seekers serious about landing their dream job recognize the value in taking a proactive approach to their search. They understand that success takes more than simply showing up and hoping for the best—it requires careful planning and consistent effort. The four areas above will serve as a road map, helping you focus your efforts and stay on track. By taking these steps, you’ll put yourself in a solid position to succeed

No matter what state the job market is in, you want to pull out all the stops to give yourself the best chances of landing a new job. While that includes networking and getting your references in order, there are some simple steps you can also take to improve your hireability and snag that new position.

6 Strategies to Improve Your Hireability

  1. Customize Your Application In an effort to save time, some job seekers send a nearly identical resume and cover letter to every employer. While this is an efficient way to apply for open positions, it’s unlikely to improve your hireability.

Recruiters can tell when you’re using a boilerplate resume and cover letter, which can indicate that you’re applying just to apply.

To prove that you’re deeply interested in the job, craft a thoughtful, tailored, well-researched cover letter and resume that’s specific to the role and company. Make sure to incorporate keywords from the job posting not only to get past the applicant tracking system (ATS) but also to help demonstrate that you’re a culture fit.

This definitely takes more time, but the investment will pay off when a hiring manager notices that you have a much better understanding of the role and requirements than other applicants.

  1. Clean Things Up Once you hit “submit,” there’s some downtime. And while you’re probably using that time to search for other opportunities, the recruiter is likely using it to research you. And what they find can impact whether or not they schedule you for an interview.

So, before starting your job search, clean up your social media profiles to ensure that the hiring manager sees positive (or at least neutral) information about you. Remove any comments, postings, or photos that might be considered controversial, political, or unprofessional. Alternatively, consider setting them to private or even deleting them.

  1. Be Selective When you come across a posting that sounds interesting, and you’re well-qualified for it, your enthusiasm likely comes across in your application. But when it’s a job you’re not as excited about, that also comes across in your application, making it less likely you’ll get the interview.

Even if you do land an interview, there’s a chance that as you learn more about the job, your lack of interest will come through. You might start to send silent signals that this isn’t the job for you (like slumping in your chair), or even send more overt signals, like using one-word answers.

Instead of applying for jobs you’re “kind of” interested in, only apply for roles that you’re genuinely excited about and want to do. The hiring manager will pick up on your enthusiasm throughout the hiring process, and this helps your chances of landing the job.

  1. Educate Yourself Hiring managers and recruiters will likely be tickled to see professional development on your resume. This can come in the form of classes, certificates, degrees, or even volunteer gigs.

Continuing your education in your chosen career field can signify to a potential boss that you keep your skills sharp and that you’re interested and invested in your career. A hiring manager may be more apt to hire you if you have current knowledge and expertise in your job.

  1. Show Off While a strong resume and cover letter is a good start, additional materials that go beyond your resume can support your application and make it shine.

For most job seekers, a well-optimized LinkedIn profile is enough. Make sure it highlights accomplishments that aren’t on your resume. And if possible, include recommendations and endorsements from previous bosses, coworkers, or freelance clients.

For some fields, though, a LinkedIn profile isn’t enough. In that case, consider starting a personal website that better showcases your skills and abilities. You can link to articles you’ve written, projects you’ve completed, or just about anything that won’t fit on your LinkedIn page.

  1. Soften Things Finally, one great way to improve your hireability is to play up your soft skills. These are the skills that employers desire most in their staff. And while many people claim to have specific skills, it’s hard to get that across in your application.

So, don’t just claim you’re a problem-solver, give an example of how you solved a problem for your employer and how that helped the company. This can help the recruiter picture you in the role solving the problems they face and can give you an edge over other applicants.

Up Your Game Job searching takes time and effort. But if you follow the above steps, you can improve your hireability and land the job that’s truly meant to be. Don’t forget to share your thoughts and suggestions right here on #Jobcase #advice #Jobsearch #motivation #hiringnews

#MyThoughts on Sunday

Start Your Sunday with Positive Thoughts of Knowing you can overcome all things. It starts with believing in the power to change the past and focus on the future. Like a Baby who learns how to walk. It falls over and over but never gives up. One day, it takes it’s first step, the next, two steps. Over the cause of trying over and over it walks across the room and everyone is celebrating. It’s the same with applying for a job, you apply over and over each day. Then you get the call for an interview and don’t get the job. You applied to other companies. The call comes in and you get hired. We in the Jobcase Community read your story and celebrate the good news. You become an inspiration to others who read your post. And Our Community helps others. Trust and Believe You Got the Power of #Jobcase @Jobcase

For less than $300 you can start your own business - I'm a chef and I started my own personal chef business - insurance, LLC, everything legal. I made it work for over 2 years - and I still work for certain clients (regulars). The beginning is tough, but I also made my own spice blends and sold them on Shopify. It can be done.
