I am 56 years old and worked at a University for over 25 years. I was let go February 20`6. They bring in the young people who want to make that difference and get rid of those like me who have been around for many years. I just have a high school diploma but know a lot about administrative work. I just need to know that there are places out there that will still hire someone like me. Are there any tips as to looking for a job at my age?

Its so hard to find a job in California some places want you to have a Degree on some of things I have experience on or they just don't call you at all.......

So I have now been unemployed for 4months and the prospects are not looking up. I have always prided myself on being self-sustaining and now rely on the kindness of family. I moved home to help with a parents care so that it would not be left to one sibling who has done everything since we all moved out of the area. Earned a very nice living in the Dallas area and owned my own home before moving home. Closest small city near me is pop 199k and i thought the opportunities would be okay...i was wrong and the pay so much less... My background is in accounting and finance but no degree. I have 94 college credit hours and have never had an issue before. I just figure that it is.my time especially coming from someone who was always able to help family out with money to now being the one that needs help. And sadly, I know there are people out there that are much.worse off than me...so it makes me feel worse for complaining or venting. Does anyone have thoughts and or ideas that may let me know what I maybe doing wrong in my search? I always ask for feedback from all interviewers and am told ot was down to you and one other but my interviews skills are good and my resume is just.fine... Thanks in advance for any and all advice...

Dear JobCase: Enterprise emailed a reject notice yesterday 8/13/2016 because I lacked a Batchelor' Degree I would love the job. I doubt they're having second thoughts, but Thank you for asking.

This is addressing the employers. I heard on my local news today that by the year 2022, 35% of employers will require a bachelor's degree.
Senario:
You have a candidate with 20+years experience that has an Associates Degree. This person's experiences has all the qualifications that the job requires. This person has worked in the field and all aspects of working in a similar business for 20+ years. This person has lived and done all forms of situations within the job market.
You then have a candidate who has just graduated with a bachelor's degree in a field that does not even come close to what the job requirements. A person who has never been in the day to day work force. A person who does not even know how to handle situations.
The person with the experience either never hears anything even when following through with making sure their resume was received or they get an interview, then hear nothing back either by mail, phone or email.
You find out later that the person with the bachelor's degree got the job.
I hear all the time a person who has experience "must have bachelor's degree" or a person who has bachelors degree
"need experience".
There are not too many college graduates that have experience. This never made sense to me.
Through all of my job searches I have encountered, on a receptionist jobs, requiring a bachelor's degree. This just blew my mind. What kind of college education do you take to learn how to answer the phone for a business? There are classes that a person can take to learn that and not spend thousands of dollars to learn the proper way. This I thought was the most ridiculous requirement that I have encountered.
My question to the employers out there is "Why would you choose someone with that bachelor's degree in an unrelated subject over someone with an associates degree in a similar subject with many years of experience?"
I am one who had to pay for my own education and I did not feel that to be in debt for most of my life was worth it especially when the pay was not any better for education verses experience.
I would like to hear the reasons
.Thank You

I don't have any degrees (but I did finish high school). I have about six years experience in my field (beverages) but a lot of beverage sales jobs ask for a bachelor's. Should I try applying anyway? Should I mention that in my cover letter? Does real world experience translate enough?

I quit a very good paying job as a Senior Buyer in July 2015. My boss was a bully and so I took as much as I could of that and decided to leave. I had reported him three times to HR, and they told me there was nothing they could do about management. Really??? Crazy yes, but it's true. So I took a leave and then resigned but immediately began seeking new employment and am still unemployed. I never finished my college education and a lot of these big companies want a BA or BS in something before they will take you seriously. This seems to be some kind of discrimination in my opinion. I have worked plenty with people with degrees and that does not guarantee a good employee with good work ethics and values in the workplace but here I am; stuck in a world of competing with a higher educated workforce and I have tons of experience; far more than most of my coworkers generally. What do you do about not having a degree and what is the best way to explain this in an interview if you get that chance to do so.

I have been recently laid off and have started the job search. It is a little scary right now. How does one combat not having a 4 year degree. I have experience but on several occassions I have found that having a 4 year degree is required. Any advice.

Hello Everyone, I have recently been laid off at my company where I was a Director, of Conferences and Events. I have now begun my search but I have noticed that many of the jobs require a degree. I have over 10 years of conference and event management skills and find that I am not getting many responses. I have even just been looking for event and conference manager positions. Any advice.
