Imagine this scenario: You get the offer, but it's less than you were hoping for. You don't want the company to rescind the offer, but you also don't want to leave money on the table. What's the best way to go about this?

Imagine this scenario: You receive an offer from one company, but you are hoping for an offer from another company next week. What's the best way to navigate that situation? Should you tell company #1 that you are waiting on another offer?

After a month of applications the last 2 weeks have been wonderful. I’ve had several interviews, 3 more scheduled and so far 1 job offer. I have feeling I may be offered 1 or 2 more.
I’ve had to be submitted to jobs paying $12,000-$16,000/yr less than what I’ve made in the past. That’s $6-$8/hr less! I guess that’s to be expected after being unemployed for over a year.
What are your thoughts on taking a pay cut to get in the door?
Regardless, I’m feeling blessed.
UPDATEUPDATEUPDATE All interviews went great. I’ve received multiple job offers. 3 offers and expecting 1 more. Could this be leveraged to negotiate my salary? Would you mention the other offers to the each employer?

I received a job offer on Monday and I accepted. I had accepted another offer The prior week and I called them and told them I could not take the position. The newest job sent me an email today and said there is now a hiring freeze so now I have neither job. I can’t seem to catch a break.

Hi community, received a call on Friday, after several interviews, background check, drug screen, this company wants to see me on Monday at 1 PM. I am really curious as to what Monday will bring, my better half say's an offer. Time will tell, I hope so, I've been out of work since December 2017. I mean you can only stretch your savings so far! ;) Wish me luck.

Hi, I have had 3 interviews this week and was finally hired after graduating almost 6 months ago. I and so glad I just kept the faith. Angela

After having a great interview with a company, I was given an offer. The offer is in line with the lower end of my range but with a lot of potential for bonuses. Since receiving the offer, I’ve had several requests for interviews and/or second interviews. I don’t want to lose the first offer but I don’t want to take the first thing that comes along. Is it acceptable to rescind an acceptance of an offer if I receive a better offer? What is the professional way to handle a situation like this? Unfortunately, I can’t put off giving an answer to the first offer until after the other interviews take place nor can I go on the other interviews and expect the first offer to still be there. I also can’t afford to throw an offer away as I’m currently not working. Please advise.
@Bill Branstetter, I think I would show nothing but gratitude for the position at first. Then I would be more than I thought I could be when I begin the position, and if, and only if, I felt worthy, I would ask to speak to the one that can increase my wages....
