When you work at Goodwill pricing things is part of the job. But sometimes you will run across an item say for example a frog lamp. You might be thinking, well, WHAT the hell is that worth?! Sometimes it feels like I am on the Price is Right.
Is $10 too high? What about $3? Of course, we want to make sure people get amazing bargains, but we also need to get a fair price for goods so that Goodwill can continue its workforce programs that the sales actually fund.
So when in doubt always ask for help from your manager or co-workers, chances are they will know the fair price if you don't. Plus, talking about frog lamps with your coworkers just makes the job way more fun.
I had a great experience at Macy's because of the people I worked with. A few months into my job I found out my wife and I were pregnant. 8 months later they all got together and threw a man shower for me during our lunch. Yup it's a thing. I was lucky to be apart of that team. I still miss them! When you are looking at jobs find GREAT people to work with, it's so important.
I got a job at ross dress for less, I guess I forgot I applied for temporary for hire since they dont have a full time postion or maybe part time. I would like to have a stable job then a temporary since I had bad experience with a temporary to hire postion because I only worked before within only two days THAT WAS IT. I'm trying not to compare this job to the other one, but I really am wanting a job I can just keep and not worry to be let go with some odd reason. So I applied to some jobs and my question is if there was a job to call me while I'm working this temporary to hire service, what could I do to not make it look bad on me? Could I just tell the store manager I found a better direction for me since this is temporary? I have to say I liked the people the best, but also that I learned a lot about how to organize things and give great customer service from my manager, Terry. She was awesome!!! Most patient woman ever. If I made a mistake and felt embarrassed she just looked me in the eyes and said it was ok and to keep going. So to everyone out there....it's OK, keep going!
Back in the day between chef jobs, I needed some work. I told my girlfriend at the time I was going to apply for Macy's because they were hiring. She laughed and told me that only women work in retail. Well needless to say we broke up (not because of that, haha) and she was wrong. Sometimes I was in the men's department and helping guys pick out suits and what not and others I jumped over to ladies shoes to help ring them out. No big deal. I liked it.
