Hello all,

I left the field of education to try to use my ABD in Business Management, sold everything I owned and moved to AZ. I have applied for many different jobs in many different industries. I went through three interviews with this one company that wants me to take over a start up and have even talked about incentives. The problem is that this has been a three week process without finalizing the numbers. I have been out of work since Jan. 26 and I was the only income so we are strapped. Should I risk it all on a start up that doesn’t seem to have it together or am I just reading into things?

This is a big decision for me as a senior career level job seeker trying to decide if it’s better to accept a job with a small startup company or a large well established corporation. The startup job offers more technical creative freedom in a cutting edge environment and great pay. The corporate job offer is an entry level technical support position with great benefits, a slightly lower salary, and tremendous growth opportunities. My heart is telling me to take the job with the startup but at 52 years of age I can’t help thinking about what my job options will be if the smaller company goes out of business within 5 years. I’m so grateful to be in a position to choose a career path now but I fear that option won’t be around much longer as I get older. Ageism is a Reality! So, should I go with the more exciting and better paying job offer of stick with a more familiar and secure corporate job? Your feedback is much appreciated. Thank you.

Sorry Ladies and Gents for not being on here as often as I would have liked to have been but a lots been happening my end and to start with its been quite productive. A couple of guys that I have worked with before created a startup in the Eastend of London basically an online app and a bunch of websites geared towards the insurance brokering side of finance and I've been helping out designing their sites , app, emailers and landing pages plus mpu's for linkedin so have been pretty busy on that front which has then opened up a plethora of new ventures that I am now looking at and boy theres a real doozy of one on the radar and it all started with doing a test for Netsys a games design company based in China (which is a bit of a wild card I know but having grown up with Marvel and DC comics in my youth it's a dream job really) well thats still in the pipeline but the guys that created Doom and Quake and Wolfenstein came at me from the left field and I have an initial conference call with them tomorrow and I am very excited and had no one else to vent my spleen on and I'm afraid it's you guys ........ I don't know if I'll get it but boy I am gonna have so much fun at the interview and testing stage. Thats enough about me what I'm trying to say is if you know that what you are doing is what it is that you want to do for the rest of your life and you work hard towards your goal then things like this do come to you because word gets around and companies want to meet you, see what you can do and finally when alls said and done hire you so stick to your guns keep at it and I'll be here every sep of the way . thanks and sorry about the ramble

Start-up companies offer more creative opportunities but I’m not sure how they match up with corporate job security and growth opportunities.
