That would be fine as long as you know what you are getting yourself in to. Research is paramount! Look for a prospectus on the company you want to invest in. Look for IPO's and small cap stocks to start with. Buy and hold!!
My personal opinion-Don't listen to the daily crap you hear on TV about the Dow, S&P, etc. DO YOU OWN RESEARCH! I can't overemphasize this enough. Use e-trade or TD Ameritrade. Very easy to set up. TD Ameritrade has numerous tutorials to guide you along if you are new to trading. Even seasoned veterans use these tutorials. Look for stocks that support sustainable industries. RESEARCH,RESEARCH,RESEARCH! Best of luck!
