Hello All - I started this community area for older workers who might be looking to re-enter the workforce. As you know, the U.S. is and soon will be facing a tremendous shortage in workers. This will make it more attractive for employers to recruit 55+ candidates. As with any job search, older workers will need to be patient and resilent, but also focused on acquiring the right set of skills for what is being forecasted as the longevity economy. I hope we all can use this forum to share experiences, #advice and successes on the path to fighting #ageism and finding fulfilling and important work again.

I want to address a problem that been bothering me since I lost my full-time job at the beginning of summer. I would spend hours trying to apply for jobs, but the interviews and job offers I dreamed about never came. I have a college degree and well over 25 years experience, but I'm finding the doors were promptly shut after I revealed my age; "thank you for your interest" was a phrase I kept getting. Being a little older than most applicants should not be a deterrent to getting a chance to prove myself worthy of at least being considered. So I narrowed down my search to only include part-time positions. You guessed it: crickets. There are so many amazingly talented people whose only drawback is their age. I sincerely hope the employers who passed on hiring a well-seasoned, multifaceted in favor of someone whose most desirable feature is their youth. #ageism #jobsearch
