I felt proud to work for #The Giant Supermarket Company when...

The question was posted: Why not tells us about Giant Supermarket in Conshohocken?

Great when I was a shopper there during the 3 years before I joined in 2020. Bright. Appeared clean. Helpful engaging staff. Came end of '19, I left another industry and applied. I had been in that very biz from 1993 through much of 2013. PathMark. Stop&Shop. ShopRite. Mostly in New Jersey.

Joined in Feb 2020 just before COVID-19. Great GSM. Nice group. Customer centric. Good ASM team of 3 behind the G.

Started part-time. 6 months in, GSM put me in for full-time. They liked my can-do attitude. "Boss, whatever you need".

Nor'easter. 2021. May of that year as I recall. Lights out. Refrigeration out. Later determined, GSM falsified refrigeration checks. Termed for cause.

Store in remodel simultaneously, there were many corporate heads on site. "Acting" gsms came and went (a week at a time) over the course of 8 or 9 weeks. Some weeks, nobody. Morale cratered. Procedures fell off. Customer relations frayed, naturally with the inconvenience brought about by the remodel.

Fast forward to October 2021, remodel near complete, the Receiver position opens, a "permanent" GSM is installed and all ASM positions are changed. I volunteered for Receiver (never had I been in my supermarket experience) and, following a week training at a sister store in DelCo, I took it. Liked it.

New GSM was coming up from there. Hated the ride. Hated Conshy. Hated, hated, hated. Morale continued to plunge. Asset Protection was removed to another store (grand open) in the district. Procedures fell off. Community relations fell off. COVID was still a thing.

Me? I turned that Warehouse around ! Vendors straightened up, Trucks we're received promptly, Audits we're getting passed. Paperwork was in order. Recycling, Donations, KLT and ReCalls we're being handled. BUT I wasn't supported for the 9 months I kept pushing. GSM had poisoned the ops with a set-it-and-forget-it mindset, coming late and leaving early. Or calling out.

I couldn't care more than my managers did, I realized. If ignorance is bliss, this folly to be wise. I left rather than continue to speak up and be, myself, termed for insubordination or other procedural lapse.

Something I learned at #The Audrey House ...

I absolutely loved that job! I was a caregiver for 7 young men ages 13 to 17 yrs old. I enjoyed building healthy relationships with these young men. All they have ever been exposed to is Violence, drugs, constantly being in trouble for everything. I gave those boys my word that what they told me would stay with me unless they expressed that they wanted to hurt themselves or others. Then I would have to by law have to tell someone.
