I would do whatever it takes to get a full time position in the union as a carpenter I have 5 years experience and 14 years working in construction doing different trades I'm always eager to learn something new weather it's a short cut in installing whatever job and trade your doing to get the job done faster but also safe and done right to meet up with the standards to pass from the inspector, to a job trade that I'm starting to learn about and is focused to learning and basically mastering the trade it's self and will put me in that category as a jack of all trades a real handy man hopefully soon I will be givin a chance as a full time carpenter worker

I'm looking to become an apprentice for HVAC, I'd be starting at entry level. I'd like to get involved with the union. I have general knowledge, I've worked in maintenance and also construction. Can you give me any tips or career opportunities please?

It is a Union shop. So the way in the trades or crafts as I like to call them is simple. Be the top 25 of those who take any Union test. There over 15 apprenticeship in California. Go to the library and check out the testing books made by ACCO. Every gov job or union job takes a test. Once you are in the job they will train you. So. You need to be good at taking test! At home take a test for 3 to 4 hours every single day except weekends at the same time on the clock that the test will be given. This is called “State Dependen Learning” It is druggy! Get use to it. When I took the plumbers math test I scored 94% and the State of California Aptitude test my over all score was 96% 10th on the list to be hired. William Masterson. (I have dislexica and ADD, read at 4th grade level, so don’t be discouraged there is nothing beyond the scope of a man! William Masterson

I worked for Giant Eagle for 11 years, the last few as a manager. One day I had a terrible doctor's appointment just before work and was crying on the way. I should have called in late or called off, but I went in anyway. I worked for a few minutes and being that my department is right next to the cafeteria I went to the cafeteria to calm down for a moment but did not clock out. Next thing I knew I was suspended for "stealing time". I had no idea if I would get my job back or how long it would be. I did not get a warning of any type and even heard the human resource manager say "That was easy." and " If that doesn't work I have her for making change out of her drawer." (I put a dollar in and took out 4 quarters) I even heard the manager shush her. I was given a union rep that did not know me and I did not know. First thing he asks is would your manager back you up? When I said I doubt it I never heard from him. Upon arriving to the grievance my manager was there talking with the judge. No matter that I brought the department to #1 out of 30 something stores for 3 holidays, or came in on my days off to fix major problems. I was hushed immediately and told "It isn't about your work ethic, it is about the 15 minutes." I watched my job slip away as my union rep said "They think you are lying and they think you are telling them what they want to hear." I was made out to be the worst person ever and that I knew just what I was doing and my poor manager just didn't have a choice. I used to stand up for the union. It is unreal how fast they can turn on you if they want you out!!!

Hey I just like to say I signed up for Labor unions 107 in Tulsa they are Hiring. For clean up in Texas $15 per hour, $25 perdeam, they pay for your hotel room. You work 12 hour shifts and you must stay for 4 to 6 months. The only down fall is you must find your way to Texas. I'm ready to go but in the mean time I'm going to central tech (cleet) I called to find out when I'm leaving they keep putting it off a week just waitting on a call.
