Well last month I had to let my last consultant fend for himself. :( Lead generation has slowed over the last four months and both RFPs and Staffing position leads have become more "tight" as of late.
I have a few colleagues in the Security Consulting Industry that have recommended I consider a career change. I've looked into it and found several accredited international certification institutions that can provide accelerator 5 to 10 day training courses and certification for both CEH Certified Ethical Hacker and CISSP Certified Information Systems Security Professional Degrees.
While I have the time available, since I have a slow own in active contracts. My biggest concern is finding funding for the career advancement. My initial research quotes both programs with a minimal cost of over $13,000 and if I have to take supplemental training prior to the main program it could be as high a $24,000?!?
If the contacts my colleagues have stated they'd refer to me are true I might be able to repay that cost in less than 8 months of work. Alternatively Security Engineer and CEH employment start at $103,000 and above.. Provided I score high and provide quality services.
If it were last year when I had a surplus of savings and my companies where doing much better that might be something I could get a loan for and may off over time.
Now, with Covid and a serious reduction to single digit contracts, SBA loans, and mounting debt. That seem less likely.
Ok enough story time.
I wanted to ask if anyone is aware of State (based in Oregon) or Federal programs I could petition for grant or business/personal loans for reeducation and or career advancement for folks over 40 years old?
I'm going to research myself, but thought more informed folks may know where to point me in the right direction.
Any ideas?
Sallie Mae is double garnishing me now. They have two arms coming at me. So now working at my par time minimum wage job. I am being garnished 30 percent of my income. Thanks to my inability to get anything better. I am even poorer now.
Tell me again why college was worth it? That is even with me having a MBA and BFA in animation. College is a scam. It is not worth it. All it gave me is low wage work. Made me even more unemployable then I was before college.
This debt has effected my mental health to no end. Of course they don’t care about my issues. They don’t care if they garnish all my wages. These ass***s are the worst. You know what? You can thank the US government. This would not happen in the private sector.

So after 3 years of college I left because it wasn’t for me. I looked into trucking since my uncle did trucking fora few years. I went and did the CDL school and have been working for this company for about 10 months now. I don’t think I want to stay OTR, I will probably go do local work after another 6 months to a year, but being able to live pretty much rent free and not worry about tons of bills is nice. I was working for this company for like 1 year and 2 months everything was find until my General manager step down. The company bring in some new general manager and everything started going down the drain I applied for a payday loan back in July the loan office had to call and verify it I got the loan I missed one payment in Oct and they sent out a letter saying if I didn't make payment they was going to start garnish wages so I did.this new general manager told me on Monday the 23 the company has a policy say it's against the rules to apply and take out a loan I told her that I never seen no policy stated that and where was it at in the policy so she tried to write me up I I refused to sign the write up so they she sent me home.next day I went in for my schedule time to work and told me that I was Terminated so I left and came home and file for my unemployment I received my letter from unemployment in the mail yesterday and I was deny.they say reason y I was Terminated was because my cash register was 39 dollars short now I have to appeal the decision because my cash register was short on the 15th of Oct.she never wrote me up I never sign a write up for my cash register begin short I never got fired she keep me on schedule and put me right back on the cash register and told me she couldn't prove if I took the money or someone else did I ask them did they run the tape back and she couldn't say nothing how can I get fired for cash shortage that happen on the 15th of Oct.
