Research the Company – Review their website, mission statement, and social media. Look for consistent messaging on diversity, work-life balance, and ethics. Check Employee Reviews – Platforms like Glassdoor, LinkedIn, or Indeed offer insights into company culture and management practices. Observe During the Interview – Ask questions like: How does the company support employee growth and well-being? Can you describe the leadership style here? Evaluate Their Actions, Not Just Words – Look for tangible initiatives (e.g., DEI programs, sustainability efforts, employee testimonials) rather than generic statements. Trust Your Gut – If interactions feel disorganized, dismissive, or high-pressure, it may indicate a misalignment.

Raised on retail, former entertainment assistant, seeking new opportunities

I wish I would have placed more importance on cultivating seniority within companies. When I was younger I thought a year was a long time! Looking back, my resume does not convey longevity.

I took a job working for a small media company, and it was quite an ordeal! I absolutely needed the money, and the job market was very slow. It was really my only option. Unfortunately, the workplace culture was depressing, the pay was exceptionally low, and there were no benefits. I was there for 6 months before I finally got a better job.

Your resume summary should match the job description, not word for word, but with enough verbiage in it to pique the interest of whoever is tasked in screening resumes. It must get past the screener as the manager is too busy being a manager. Only a small percentage of resumes, out of a slew of submissions, will make their targeted eyes. It's a headhunters' mindset you need, but that's a training I give separately
