Fuel Tanker Driver
Hey everyone my name is Alex out of Los Angeles. I’m a fuel tanker driver and I absolutely love my job. 🚛⛽️
I started off working in the ports, but my main goal was to haul fuel which I just recently accomplished in March of this year. ✅

Do you prefer being a Local driver or an OTR driver?
I personally prefer being a local driver and I would never be an OTR driver. I like to come home every night and love my predictable schedule. 🚛⛽️

What challenges did you face as a new truck driver?
As new truck driver, a challenged I faced was getting low-balled in pay. 💰
I overcame this obstacle by waiting to get 9 months experience and applied for a company paying their employees $100k annually. 😁

Challenges a truck driver face every day
What’s your biggest challenge you face as a truck driver every day? 🚛
And how do you overcome them? 🤔
Just as this video is talking about, I would say other drivers are my biggest challenge. I work and deliver fuel in the greater Los Angeles and these drivers can drive erratic most of the time. 🚛 ⛽️
Lucky for me I start at 3pm, so by 8pm traffic dies down until the end of my shift at 4am. 🕓
But I use defense driving and increase my following distance by 5 seconds to overcome this particular challenge. 👀

How do you stay healthy as a truck driver?
Here’s a short YouTube video providing some tips on how to eat healthy as a truck driver. 🥗
As a truck driver myself, I take my health seriously and maintain a militant exercise schedule and diet. 🏋️♀️
I know it can be difficult as an OTR driver, but as a local fuel tanker driver I get the luxury of coming home every night. 🚛
The way I stay healthy is I exercise everyday for about 30-45 minutes before I go to work. 💪
My meals, consist of oatmeal, egg whites, tuna, salad, and vegetables. 🥦
I tend to eat a lot of snacks while I’m working, but my potato chips are organic, cheese sticks, trail mix, etc. I do indulge in pastries, but the balance I keep allows me to eat unhealthy snacks from time to time. Exercising is key to my health. 🔑

A Female driver’s trucking experience
Here’s a short YouTube video of a female driver detailing her experience and the action she takes to overcome hurdles as a women in a male dominated industry. 👩 🚛
From my personal experience as a truck driver, I can personally say women are truly respected by male truck drivers in the industry. At times they are treated as one of the guys just like any other driver. 🤝
I was personally inspired by a female driver when I first got my CDL and a woman is responsible for me wanting to work inside the Los Angeles ports. If it wasn’t for her, I probably would have never started working inside the ports. 🪪
If you’re a woman that is interested in getting your CDL, I highly recommend that you do. 👌
Are there any women that that may be interested in getting a CDL? If so feel free to drop a comment. ⤵️

Paid CDL training vs. CDL school
Here’s a YouTube video explaining the pros and cons of getting “paid CDL training” vs “CDL school”. 🏫 🪪
From my own personal experience I just paid $3,000 for truck driving school so I don’t get locked in any contracts. 📝
It worked out great for me because I was able to job hop until I got 9 months experience to work for a company that paid 6 figures. 💰
I was also able to work locally and avoid driving OTR. I got my CDL in October of 2021 and by January 2022 I was working the Los Angeles and Long Beach ports. 🚢
In March of this year I was able to land a job hauling fuel in Los Angeles making $140k annually. My strategy worked out perfectly and now I’m at the perfect company that takes care of their employees. 🚛⛽️
Any questions or concerns feel free to drop a comment. ⤵️
Keep on trucking! 🚛

Owner Operator vs. Company Drivers
Here’s a very informative video of owner operators and company drivers talking about the pros and cons they have experienced. 💭
As a truck driver myself, I prefer to be a company driver to avoid all the headaches that come with maintaining a semi-truck. Company drivers make just as much as an owner operator that includes benefits and vacation pay. California has also made it difficult for owner operators to make money as well so it’s best to keep up with your state laws. ✅
After watching this video, do you prefer to be an owner operator or a company driver? 🤔
