Accept a position as a clerk, even though you may want to be a carrier. The advancement opportunities are better because you'll have training in more areas.

As a mail carrier, I loved sorting the mail to the addresses in the mail case (Repetitiveness?) then getting outside delivering to the homes. As a Postmaster, again, sorting mail and casing it to the POBoxes, selling stamps, taking in parcels, dealing with the public.

You don't start as a career employee. Depending on the office, managers, job performance and other factors, you begin as a temporary. Usually after one to three years you may have the opportunity to become career. It is a very intense and stressful multi tasking job.

Christmas time for sure! The last few years since Amazon, the amount of parcels is mind boggling! Our routes were never adjusted to handle the extra load.

On the route you are your own boss. Meeting great customers. Overcoming daily challenges.

Working with retired military personnel like myself and the different ways how the mail was processed

Seeing the joy that was on a recipients face when they got a Letter from family or an old friend. Especially at Christmas.

Actually I would not advocate for the Postal Service. It is a dying organisation. And with the way that other government agencies have treated this organization I find it amazing that it is still a viable entity today. But that will not last.
