A startling revelation has emerged from a recent study conducted by economists from Princeton and Harvard universities, which surveyed over 2,100 remote workers during the pandemic.

Shockingly, the study found that the majority of remote workers would be willing to take a pay cut in order to continue working from home, with a staggering 58% of respondents saying they would take a pay cut of up to 5%, while 31% said they would take a pay cut of up to 10%.

Only a meager 6% of respondents said they would NOT be willing to take a pay cut at all.

  • If your boss or a potential recruiter was open to negotiate a pay-cut for a work-from-home setup, how much pay would you be willing to give up?

The study also highlighted the immense value remote work holds for employees, with a remarkable 65% of respondents expressing their preference to work remotely full-time after the pandemic.

A mere 2% of respondents stated that they would prefer to work in an office full-time, while 33% preferred a hybrid model.

These results underscore the growing trend of remote work and suggest that employees are willing to make considerable sacrifices to continue working from home.

  • Patience
  • Time management
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Multi-tasking
  • Customer relations
  • Teamwork

These are all skills that I mastered as a worker in the #FoodServices industry throughout the years. Consequently, these are also skills that I use in my current job every single day! Though I still work nights as a part-time bartender for some extra $$ (gotta love student loans!), I spend my days working here at Jobcase as a Community Specialist. The things I learned at the restaurant expand so much further than cocktail recipes and menu knowledge. It taught me how to keep calm under pressure, connect with people of all personalities and how to stay organized while moving at lightning speed.

I am grateful for my 8 years of experience in the hospitality industry. The transferable skills I have learned over the years has made me a stronger, more confident worker in any job I have pursued.

Also, the gig is a blast! I love being able to meet dozens of new people each day and build relationships with our regulars :)

Who else is grateful for their time in the industry??

The health care industry is booming and opportunities are everywhere. The good news is that you don't need a medical degree or previous health care experience to find a job in this industry. Here are three of the most popular roles that health care companies are hiring for that many job seekers can apply to:

  1. Home Health Aide Many terminal, disabled, or elderly patients choose to receive at home instead of in a hospital. Home health aides visit these patients to provide medication, check vitals, and offer company. As a home health aide, you may also perform housekeeping duties such as sweeping or laundry. Unlike many other entry-level healthcare jobs, becoming a home health aide requires no certification or degree. Most employers provide on-the-job training. see Health Aide jobs

  2. Medical Assistant Medical assistants are the front desks at a doctor's office. They greet patients, file paperwork, and schedule appointments. They may also coordinate service with external laboratories, perform some billing duties, or perform small patient tasks such as taking vitals. Most medical assistant positions only require a high school diploma or equivalent. Most of the training is provided on the job. see Medical Assistant jobs

  3. Medical Billing and Coding Specialist The medical industry has a system of codes that ensure that visits and procedures are properly coded and billed to insurance companies and patiences. Most doctors don't have enough time to read through their reports and assign codes so they will hand this work off to specialists to handle the data entry. Many of these positions even allow you to work from home. Medical coding jobs typically don’t require a college degree. There are some certifications you can earn to make yourself a more attractive candidate, but they are not required. see Medical Billing Specialist jobs

If you are not having any luck with online applications, try reaching out to your local doctor's office to see if they are looking for any part time help.

Have you applied to any of these #healthcare roles or worked in any them in the past? Share your experiences in the comments below!

When I was looking for my first full-time job (and my second), I had no idea what I wanted to do. I didn't have any magical moment of "you were meant to be a nurse!" "an analyst!" "a park ranger". So I started from "what can I do that someone will pay me for?"

I had good computer skills and could concentrate, so I applied and ended up working as a transcriptionist, listening to audio of people having meetings and typing what they said. Most of it was focus groups (with overlapping voices, argh) about random products - and all my coworkers were doing the same thing. And then when I moved, I got a temp job putting table-of-contents links into downloadable textbooks.

But when I was in that second job, I got a break: the same company did web development, and they offered to make me a web developer intern. I had enough background to learn the new skills, and they knew I'd work hard. And I knew that I'd be more interested in building websites than I was in linking books together.

So I went from jobs that I knew I could do with the skills I already had to one where I'd need to learn more. I knew I could make that jump, and had way more confidence than when I'd first left school and thought "now what?" Since then, my advice has been to get into a company that has many different jobs, start from something you know how to do (easier to interview for!), and then talk to your coworkers about what they do and see if you're interested in changing your role.

That way you have an easier path to get your first job, and many options for your second!
