Yangfeng was an equal opportunity workplace for everyone to advance their careers.

You could be given a higher position from machine operator to team lead or forklift driver, etc before you got hired.

#It had good management. #HR and some Supervisors were reasonable when helping with issues. #The environment was always clean. #It had a huge lunchroom that could accommodate every employee during meetings, potlucks, dinners etc. #It had also great health care benefits like vision, dental, 410k, medical etc.

Trying for months to get a job. Lots of Distribution experience and IT, Quality. Been jerked around a few times with promises, or even offers after good interviews, then hear nothing. Yes I’ve followed up. Every interview says my resume is great and why am I applying for a lower position etc... well geniuses, maybe it’s because the higher positions aren’t choosing me and I need a job. I’m not afraid to work a ‘lower’ job. I’m broke now. I have nothing. Everyone says ‘anyone can get a job now’ and it’s not true. The lower level jobs either pay 1/4 of my former pay or they just don’t hire me because of my so called great resume. I’m so done with all of this.

In December 2019 my husband and I were told that after 20 years of working for a major dealership as IT Consultants that we were getting too old (65 and 67) and couldn’t give many more years of work as a younger worker could... We were in shock and many of the co workers and Managers were appalled to see us go because they said that our work was outstanding. Can we sue for age discrimination? It has been next to impossible to find jobs since then because the employers seem to be afraid of older workers. We just want to work and do not even ask for any benefits just a paycheck.

Been looking around for various IT jobs since June. All that’s available is contract work so I took a job that just ended end of January. Of course I’ve been looking for better, more permanent solutions this whole time. Accepted a new contract that starts Monday the 17th but got called to do a final interview in software development on Wednesday. Already signed paperwork for the accepted job so don’t know what to do if the other company offers to pay potentially $10 more.

In this swiftly evolving technical world there is a ever growing demand for professionals who are knowledgeable and up to date with the vast collection of solutions available and the skill set needed to provide consultation and implementation of these solutions. While there is demand for these services, im many cases the need seems to be only temporary. The temporary need has led to an overwhelming number of Contract positions. This situation has led to hardships felt by IT professionals due to the instability of employment. Employment services are exploiting this demand by providing a desperate workforce a temporary fix for a long lasting problem. This has led to many professionals spending short periods of time actually employed and moths of frustration between assignments. We must address this situation and find a solution together.

more women in IT Customer support is a good starting point tons of jobs are available women are better and more sensitive plus they listen to customer in detail where as men have less of a an attention span. If you speak fluent English that’s another win

My position unexpectedly closed back in May of this year. I was blindsided & then I sulked for 2 months in anger. Then I decided to get out into the world of job hunting. Application after application, interview after interview. Then I gave in & went to an employment agency just to further my disappointment. Believe me I'm still going to accept a job offer when it finally presents itself because I need fuel (money) so that I could make more money and also pay my bills. I'm also walking through open doors of opportunity when they present themselves.

I have spent these past months reading the posts and comments of others here on jobcase & we are all in this together in one way or another.

Yes, I'm frustrated & scared & disappointed but I know there is something out there for me; I will be where I'm meant to be.

In the meantime, to my complete surprise, I decided to take an IT course. I have always been afraid of IT. I assumed I had to have a math brain or an engineer brain, I assumed it was computer coding and very hard, so yes, I avoided it like I avoid germs.

My goodness I was so far from the truth & completely wrong. I began the first lesson today, & I laughed so hard (more at myself for my past assumptions), it is so much easier than you would ever think or assume.

No, I am not an affiliate. No, this is not an MLM. Yes, this truly is simply a course that is easy to learn & apply to the real life work environment.

This is completely your choice. I'm am only presenting a realistic helpful option for you.

I wish the best for everyone. & I figured there is someone out there that would like this information.

After being laid off as result of investor buyout, merging 2 companies together, 4 yrs of double domain upheaval, new business model, hardware changes, major software swapping, remote contractors being remotely supported and an on call phone shared by 3 people making work/life balance nonexistent, I was finally hit by tenured personnel being replaced by contract workers like in most other departments. Was so much that it was almost a relief to have 3 months severance pay for sabbatical purposes but now have been in job search mode for 6 months and just not sure where I am. Nothing but 2/3 pay contract or contract to hire prospects doing what I was doing. Have tried to get other jobs closer to home where work/life balance of no commute time and money offsets the lower pay, ones I'm capable of doing but no experience making a living doing on resume. Just a lot of interviews leading to nothing. Not sure if 33 yrs in IT is it or over qualified appearance of bolting back to other job offer or no resume experience or what. Doesn't seem I can even score entry level stuff. Kind of lost as to what to even try for at this point.

***UPDATE-SEE UPDATE BELOW ***

After a month of applications the last 2 weeks have been wonderful. I’ve had several interviews, 3 more scheduled and so far 1 job offer. I have feeling I may be offered 1 or 2 more.

I’ve had to be submitted to jobs paying $12,000-$16,000/yr less than what I’ve made in the past. That’s $6-$8/hr less! I guess that’s to be expected after being unemployed for over a year.

What are your thoughts on taking a pay cut to get in the door?

Regardless, I’m feeling blessed.

UPDATEUPDATEUPDATE All interviews went great. I’ve received multiple job offers. 3 offers and expecting 1 more. Could this be leveraged to negotiate my salary? Would you mention the other offers to the each employer?

Growing up in the IT world everyone said you have to work your way up the chain. I have several times from Help Desk to eventually a Director role. A few months I got super sick (I had an organ rupture) and received a lot of crap from my employer. I ended up leaving that position even though I loved the company I worked for.

A lot of the places I have applied for either tell me I am way to over qualified to work for the position I have applied for or that because I have climbed the ladder to get to do the things I wanted to do it prevents me from getting looked at.

How would someone handle being told that you are either to over qualified for a position or that you are to seasoned for a position.

I know thats a loaded question but I seem to be running into it a lot.
