Fuel tanker deliveries are in the top three highest paying salaries in the trucking industry. I’ve seen hourly pay at $47 per hour with overtime after 40 hours in Los Angeles.

How to Prepare for a Job Interview:
Preparing for a job interview is crucial to making a good impression and landing the job. Here are a few tips to help you prepare:
• Research the company and the position
• Practice answering common interview questions
• Dress professionally
• Bring copies of your resume and a pen and paper to take notes

Project Planning is important in the warehouse industry. I received my “Project Planning Management” certificate from the University of La Verne and it helps a great deal when applying for management positions.
Here is a short video on Project Planning.

Class A CDL
When I decided to get my Class A CDL there was a lot of information I wish I knew beforehand that could have saved me time, money, and energy. For example, I went to a trucking school thinking I just could pay the fee and enroll, but I actually needed a Class A permit first. So I set up a DMV appointment and studied for the test for a month and when my appointment came around, I actually needed my DOT medical certificate before I could take my DMV knowledge test. So I had to reschedule my DMV appointment and go take my physical pushing my time frame back. It took me four months to get my CDL when it should have only took me 2 months. To spare anyone the inconvenience, these are the steps that I took to get my CDL.
The first thing you need to do is study for the CDL. Download the DMV study guide from their website. I also recommend downloading the CDL prep app. It’s free and has the same questions as the DMV test. When you are ready to take the air brake and knowledge test, make a DMV appointment. Before your appointment you’ll need a DOT physical from an urgent care. Not all urgent cares offer DOT physicals, so call and find out which one does. They are generally $100 for a medical certificate. When your DMV appointment arrives, take your birth certificate, ID, medical certificate, and two utility bills that prove you live at your residence.
After passing your test you’ll receive a Class A permit and you can either pay $3,000 to enroll in trucking school which is 27 courses 1 hour each course, or you can apply for a trucking company that will provide paid training. Takes around 2-4 months to get your CDL from start to finish depending on the pace you set for yourself. Any other questions feel free to ask.

Six Sigma
A solid management team will always try to improve the quality in the manufacturing or distribution process in a company’s operations’. I have worked for an ISO 9000 company which ensures customers that the quality of a product is going through several phases of quality inspections before it is shipped to the customer so it is 100% accurate.
Sometimes quality inspections take up to much time costing the company money that eats up their profit margin. This is when a company should implement “Six Sigma which will not only improve quality, it will eliminate unnecessary processes improving time and efficiency.
Six Sigma is a set of management techniques intended to improve business processes by greatly reducing the probability that an error or defect will occur. Here are some guiding principles management should consider when implementing Six Sigma. Work for the customer, the primary goal of any change you want to implement should be to deliver maximum benefit to the customer, find your problem and focus on it, remove variation and bottlenecks, communicate clearly and train team members, be flexible and responsive.
The Six Sigma process is implemented majority of the time in the warehouse industry. You can get a certification that you have been trained in Six Sigma. I have my Six Sigma certification from the University of La Verne and I actually had my former employer pay for my certification along with my Business Degrees with their tuition reimbursement program. I can’t stress enough that if your employer has a tuition reimbursement program, take advantage of the opportunity for a free education. I can guarantee to you it will help your career growth.

CNC Machinist
When you think of warehouse, most people think of picking orders, forklifts, loading & unloading trailers and taking products to their designated locations. But there is a career as a “CNC Machine Operator.” I used to be a machinist on a manual lathe and a CNC lathe in 2000-2001. I actually have a friend that’s a machinist that gross’s 190k annually as a machinist. Pay is great and it’s not back breaking work. Here is some information if you are interested in learning more on how to become a CNC operator.
Some of the primary duties of a CNC machinist include:
Reading engineered drawings and blueprints to determine the specifications of the parts being made.
Studying sample parts when specifications are not available to identify the part requirements.
Preparing working sketches.
Calculating measurements, dimensions, and tolerances with no discrepancies.
Identify, measure, and mark materials for machining.
Setting up computer instructions to operate CNC machines.
Operating various equipment to produce the desired product.
Verifying measurements and tolerances against specifications.
Performing heat treatment on individual components as required.
You will also need a High School diploma, find an employer that will apprentice you, attend a school for training, receive your Journeyman status, achieve your red seal status, and continue ongoing training. I’m providing a link, but check your region for more accurate information.

Leadership Styles
Here are the seven leadership styles that should be considered for any warehouse management position. Management should consider multiple leadership styles to adapt to a changing environment which should mitigate any disruptions in the organization. In my opinion not all leadership styles will work for a particular situation, so it’s always wise to analyze both the scenario and leadership style before implementation.
Democratic leaders, also known as participative leaders, tend to seek gain employees' input before making a decision.
Autocratic leaders, also referred to as authoritarian leaders, establish a clear vision of an end goal and how to achieve it.
"Laissez-Faire" is a French term meaning let do or let them do it. Some critics call it the “Zero leadership” style. It is a philosophy of non-interference. Leaders will give directions or goals and are less likely to check on you.
Transformational leaders, also known as visionary leaders, are strongly committed to organizational purpose and big-picture goals.
Transactional leadership is a "give and take" scenario. Reward or penalizes your employees according to the organization's standards.
Bureaucratic leaders live by the rules. There are certain times that you expect to get things done by the book.
The Servant leaders operate on the idea of service first, lead later. This style of leadership runs on the motto, “You manage other people the way you would like to manage.”
