If driving an 18 wheeler is a bit to much for you, I highly recommend getting a Class B CDL and become a concrete mixer driver. To get a Class B CDL, it only costs around $1,500 which is half the cost of a Class A CDL. Some companies will even provide paid training. You should keep in mind this type of job can get busy in the summer months and slow down in the winter. There’s not to much concrete pouring when it rains or snows. Salary ranges can be in between $25-$30 an hour depending on experience. ✅

Here’s a video of a brief explanation of how to conduct a “Lock-Out,Tag-Out” procedure. If you decide to work in a warehouse and it’s a manufacturing facility, you’ll want to know what a “Lock-Out,Tag-Out” procedure is. 10 times out of 10, a manufacturing plant will have machines that will need to be locked out for preventative maintenance. 🔐

Even if you have no experience as a machine operator, you’ll get brownie points at an interview for mentioning and explaining this procedure. You’ll demonstrate that safety is your number one priority, and you can hit the ground running with minimal training. I’m telling you from my own experience, interviewers love to hear that candidates have extensive knowledge in safety. ✅

As a truck driver myself I try to stay as healthy as possible by exercising everyday for 30 minutes. 🏃‍♂️ My eating habits consist of oatmeal and peanut butter, egg whites, tuna, salads, almonds, cheese sticks, V8 juice, and peanut butter & jelly sandwiches. For dinner I’ll eat a variety of foods, but mostly chicken and vegetables. If you’re considering of pursuing a career as a truck driver, keep in mind that if you get diabetes you can lose your CDL. Don’t fall into that trap of eating fast food and sugary snacks, especially if you’re an OTR driver. 🥗

Warehouse Safety Tips

Here’s a short video on warehouse safety tips. I used to work in warehouses for 15+ years and did everything from lumping to management. One factor that always got me a job offer was my extensive knowledge in safety. I used to really love doing a walk-through in a warehouse for my interviews because I could point out safety hazards immediately. If a fire extinguisher or a exit was blocked, I would mention that. 🧯

If you’re interested in getting into the warehouse industry, I highly recommend learning about OSHA regulations and best safe practices. Safety will get you into a leadership position and possibly even a safety coordinator position if you’re willing to get certified. Keep in mind safety is the number one priority in any warehouse, and once management recognizes you understand this, they will put you as their top candidate. 🚧
