Had a job for close to 29+ years. Then bad investments, managers who have no clue about the business (releasing people), and a bad economy. The job I did was a hybrid of different jobs. Now I struggle to fit in one or another job field. Plus everybody is paying low to start out because of the economy. #jobsearch #ageism #careerchange #technology #laidoff #customerservice #sales #interviews

After working at the company for many years I was laid off. Although I have experience it is hard to find a job. A phone interview is ok but not in person. Employers do not believe that humans can learn after 50. Because I am a human I do not know EVERYTHING but if you could give me a chance I will learn and I will do well. After applying to so many positions and 2.5 years in I give up. If the economy does not want me so be it. If you see me in the park or sleeping under the bridge just know I am not an addict. I am a hardworking person but I am too old to be hired and too old to for your 20-30 culture. I would look for something else but frankly, the tech is all I know. Thank you for your thoughts. #ageism #laidoff #python #careerchange #training #technology #certification #jobsearch #womanintech

It was a job that I’ve been doing for 45 years #laidoff

Trinity Health is a great place to work. Unfortunately, I was laid-off due to the covid pandemic but I would go back in a heartbeat. #laidoff #coronavirus #healthcare #health

So I had worked at a job for about two years then I decided I wanted a new job (change is good every now and then). I went to a temp agency and they told me that it could be a long time due to do the corona virus. Since it was going to take forever I never told any of my bosses about possibly leaving. Then after awhile the temp agency told me to take a drug test (still not telling me to put in my two weeks) then the temp agency said that I would start basically three days after that, if the drug test came back good. I asked the temp agency lady if I had time to put in my two weeks and she said to put in a notice but by that time it surely wasn’t too much of a two week notice so I basically had to quit my job of two years. I didn’t want to mess up my chances with another job that would pay me way more money an hour in comparison. So I started working at this other place and got laid off after about two months of being there. Then I filed for unemployment and the job that I previously worked at protested my claim and now I am waiting to do a fact-finding interview. I am pretty sure that they protested my claim because I never put in my two weeks. I just need to know if anyone thinks I have a good chance to win this case.

Hello new to this job site ? glad to be here and hope to find a good job as an addition technicians, some work in the area of addiction as my degree will soon be from Purdue University Global Science in Psychology in Addiction. If anyone see this who can direct me in the right place thank you everyone! #laidoff
I believe you have a pretty good chance. A temp agency tried to screw over my unemployment about 30 years ago. I was briefly unemployed and had worked for them for 8 hours (to the tune of about $40) one Saturday when I was still at Uni. I was already working three part-time jobs at the time and Saturday was my only day off. About a week or so after I filed for unemployment, a woman from the temp agency phoned. We had a 'friendly chat' about what my "ideal position" would be. I described something along the lines of what I had been doing...as I'd graduated Uni... something full-time in the financial sector. That was it. I received notification a few days later of this lousy temp agency challenging my UI claim on the grounds that I had "refused work"! It still kinda makes me angry, now that I think about it. They never offered me work or even spoke about anything they might have available. After UI did their fact finding mission, my unemployment was granted... though I didn't recoup the losses I incurred during their investigation. Afterwards, the woman at EDD told me that it was "typical" for past employers to challenge UI claims. SMH... it's BS and I still recall the anxiety I felt... even a sense of betrayal...at the temp agency's claim. You'll get through it, though. It will no doubt work out in your favour. Peace.
