Automated Ports
Here’s a glimpse of a Los Angeles/Long Beach automated port where I haul loads out of. There are two fully automated ports and I can say the transaction is really smooth as compared to ports with longshoremen workers. I was able to speak with a longshoremen about the automation, and he said they are not entirely fully automated. He said there are at least 8 operators controlling the automation and there are times when the automation malfunctions and the longshoremen have to step in and correct the issues. The automated ports will most likely not replace all jobs, because new jobs will be created when the machines need to be controlled or repaired. Any jobs that are replaced, the union and the ports have agreed to compensate the longshoremen until they retire. 🚢
If you are interested in obtaining a CDL and you live near a port, I highly recommend getting your (TWIC) card and find a carrier that hauls out of the ports. Port drivers make 6 figures, the work schedule is Monday-Friday, 10-12 hour shifts, home every night, no touch freight, and depending on your carrier all work is local. It’s the easiest money I’ve made as a blue collar worker. If you have any questions about getting a CDL or port work, feel free to ask away. 🚛

How long it takes to stop an 80,000lb semi-truck
This is an excellent video to watch for anyone interested in getting a CDL. This video demonstrates the stopping distance of a semi-truck when it’s loaded versus when it’s not. The braking distance is on the DMV test so it’s a good idea to start getting this information in now to increase retention. This will also give a good understanding to non CDL holders of how long it takes for a truck driver to stop. 🛑
Any questions on this topic or in general, feel free to drop a comment. 🤔

Speed Limit Proposal by the FMCSA
Apparently the FMCSA has submitted a proposal to limit the speed of heavy commercial vehicles. As a truck driver myself here in California, any vehicle with 3 axles or more must adhere to a (maximum) 55mph. Although this new proposal will not affect me, there are some states like Wyoming that allow truck drivers to go 75mph. I personally feel that speed limit is dangerously high and I wouldn’t go that fast even it was allowed in California. 🚛 💨
In the video, the gentleman claims it’s not about safety and more of a control issue. He states that mega carriers like Swift are in favor for this proposal because they are trying to slow the competition with the owner operators. I highly doubt this is the case because mega carries have achieved an “economies of scale” that no owner operator cannot compete with anyways. I know at my company we rely on owner operators to haul loads we can’t. Far as this speed limit proposal goes, I feel it’s a good idea for safety. I read articles every day about semi’s being in accidents. I actually got hit my a semi truck 3 weeks ago so from my personal experience this speed limit law should be implemented.
What are your thoughts on this proposal? 🤔

The Rise of the 4-Day Work Week in Businesses
In recent years, a significant paradigm shift has been observed in the way businesses approach work schedules. The traditional 5-day work week, long considered a standard, is gradually giving way to a more progressive concept: the 4-day work week. This evolution reflects a changing landscape where companies are reevaluating their strategies to strike a balance between productivity, employee well-being, and operational efficiency.
A Paradigm Shift in Work Culture
The shift toward a 4-day work week is a response to the growing acknowledgment that conventional work structures might not be optimized for today's fast-paced, technology-driven world. Businesses are recognizing that valuing output over hours spent at the office can lead to increased efficiency and improved employee satisfaction.
Traditionally, employees have been expected to work 40 hours a week, often stretching beyond that to meet job demands. However, studies have shown that productivity tends to decline after a certain number of hours worked. A shorter work week can potentially lead to more focused and productive employees during their active hours.
Benefits for Businesses
Enhanced Productivity: A compressed work week encourages employees to make the most of their time, fostering improved time management and task prioritization. Knowing they have fewer days to complete their tasks, employees tend to be more efficient and focused.
Reduced Burnout: The 4-day work week model can significantly reduce burnout and stress levels. With an extra day for rest and personal activities, employees return to work more rejuvenated and motivated, leading to increased job satisfaction and overall well-being.
Talent Attraction and Retention: Offering a 4-day work week can give businesses a competitive edge in the job market. Companies that prioritize work-life balance are more likely to attract and retain top talent, contributing to a skilled and dedicated workforce.
Cost Savings: Although counterintuitive at first glance, the compressed work week can lead to cost savings. With fewer days in the office, companies can reduce energy consumption, office overhead, and other operational expenses.
Employee-Centric Approach
One of the driving forces behind the adoption of the 4-day work week is the recognition of the need to prioritize employee well-being. Long work hours have been linked to increased stress levels, decreased job satisfaction, and even physical health problems. A shorter work week not only grants employees more time for leisure, family, and personal pursuits but also enables them to invest in self-care and mental health.
Moreover, the 4-day work week can enhance work-life balance, which is increasingly becoming a key consideration for individuals when choosing an employer. This shift is a testament to the changing expectations and values of the modern workforce, which seeks harmony between professional and personal lives.
Challenges and Implementation
While the concept of a 4-day work week holds immense promise, its implementation is not without challenges. Businesses need to assess their specific operational needs, communicate expectations clearly, and ensure that workflows are adjusted to accommodate the compressed schedule. Certain industries and roles, such as customer service or healthcare, might require more creative approaches to maintain service levels.
Adopting a 4-day work week also demands a cultural shift within organizations. Managers must focus on results rather than hours spent, and employees must remain committed to optimizing their productivity during the reduced work week.
As businesses continue to navigate an ever-changing landscape, the adoption of a 4-day work week represents a progressive step toward aligning operations with the needs of both the business and its employees. This shift not only enhances productivity and efficiency but also addresses the evolving priorities of the modern workforce. By valuing employee well-being and work-life balance, businesses can build a more motivated, engaged, and resilient team that contributes to long-term success. While the transition may pose challenges, the potential rewards make embracing the 4-day work week a strategic and forward-thinking decision for businesses of all sizes. #jobsearch #interview #motivation #hiringnews
