WHAT IS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE PART OF SIDEWORK??

Most of us in this Group understand that a job in a Restaurant comes with a little extra work before and after a shift that is called “Sidework”. 🗓 These are daily tasks that need to be completed to make sure the Restaurant stays clean, organized, and stocked for future shifts! 🍽 🧼 🫧

My least favorite task is probably changing kegs, or cleaning out moldy low boys or walk-ins, - although when that task is over it can feel the most satisfying! 🍾🍻🫧 I think since I am 5’ 4” on a good day, and the kegs used to feel like they were the size of my body, I would dread when I was the only one available to pick up an entire full keg, and add it to the stack while correctly using the coupler to insure proper flow. 🏋️‍♂️ A keg of beer in a craft brewery can easily cost hundreds of dollars, and I didn’t want to make a mistake that would effect it’s sale. 💰🍺

A lot of folks hate monotonous, tedious work that comes with a Restaurant, like rolling silverware or stuffing new menus into their sleeves.🍴I love repetitive, craft like tasks, and would often compete with myself for how fast I could go, while still maintaining my crisp and neatly tight silverware rolls. ⌛️🍽🤵🏻‍♀️

Sometimes Servers and Bartenders are responsible for some pretty deep cleaning at the end of their shift, depending on how much the Restaurant is shelling out for a nighttime cleaning service. 🧼 This can mean a lot of sticky and maybe moldy messes to clean and floors so filthy it would be impossible to reach that level at home. 🧽🧹 Some sweeping is common for Servers, and mopping can be too - but nothing beats having an overnight cleaning crew. I think they are the most underrated heroes of the Service Industry, and the way they do their job can change how busy a Restaurant gets, what a servers job is like, and reviews of the Restaurant. 🦸‍♂️

Restocking Beers can be difficult, making sure to re-clean each table with sanitizer, and wipe down/refill each individual condiment bottle can be a pain also. 🧂🥫 I loved this final touch, done to ward off any lurking fruit flies and scoop up any drops of sugary sauce. It can be so satisfying knowing you’re leaving the Restaurant as fresh as you possibly can. 🫧 🪰

🧼 As much as you may dislike sidework, it’s undeniable that when a Restaurant is fully stocked, sanitized, meeting health codes, and ready for whatever the next day throws at it - it’s a beautiful thing. 💐🍽

WHAT IS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE SIDE-WORK TASK TO DO?? WHAT DO YOU DREAD CHECKING OFF THE LIST? WHAT IS ONE TASK YOU LOVE MORE THAN THE OTHERS?
