Many of us have been laid off, quit, or have been terminated. Whether these circumstances were fair, or not, unemployment happens to the best of us. What's the longest you have found yourself without work? How did you get back into the workforce?
Sometimes it can seem impossible to get your foot back in the door, and the longer it takes, the more hopeless it can seem. A long employment gap in your resume can also be detrimental to your overall candidacy.
Luckily, with perseverance, a well-crafted resume (and cover letter), opportunities often come out of the woodwork. When I'm looking for a job, I always remind myself it's simply a numbers game: the more you apply, the more possibilities there are.
It also helps to get professional help. Whether it's a recruiter, a resume review, or just reading a few articles online, it's good to get a professional opinion or help.
So, what are your strategies for returning to the workforce after a long absence? How did you find yourself unemployed?
Best of luck out there, fellow Jobcasers!

I was fired due to missing work due to a work injury what do I do I’m loosing everything #stressful #termination #advice

You recently find out a co-worker of yours went to HR because you not being quite as chatty as them makes them “uncomfortable”, how would you react to this news?

People always put themselves at risk by being talkative and voyeuristic, when I don't have a problem, I easily defend my reputation.

I don't know if people who ask that question are aware of how rude it is or how much it makes the other person uncomfortable.

I started on Nov.12.23 and got fired 1 year later APPROXIMATELY. The thing is, I was a minor (16-17)... I was forced to train people when trainers had to be 18 or older, never got any trainer's pay ($2 more an hour...), and was threatened with termination or loss of hours if I didn't comply. My breaking point was when I was training a 30-something-year-old, and she'd whine about being trained by a minor. There were 3 newbies and a manager on shift so I was all over the place. It got to the point where we were busy and I was training the 30-year-old, and she cursed me out, called me a "Little b*", the name-calling and such went on (even when I reported it to management), so I got tired of it and told her to stop. She throws the largest size soda at me in uniform. i curse her out, next day I get a called saying I'm terminated. #termination #advice #stressful

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. It sounds like you were put in a difficult and unfair situation at your previous job. In cases where you feel your termination was unjust, it may be helpful to seek guidance from legal resources or speak with an employment lawyer to explore your options. In the meantime, focus on finding a new opportunity that values your skills and treats you with respect. Consider using platforms like Jobcase, Indeed, and Glassdoor to search for job openings that align with your interests and qualifications. Stay positive and keep moving forward in your job search.

I am severely allergic to seafood and my last job fired me over it after me telling them in the interview and them putting me on EVERY seafood day where I had to do dishes and laundry plus serve the seafood. I also had doctor note after doctor note saying i cant be around it put ne elsewhere and they wouldnt and they knew i have a anaphylaxis reaction to seafood. My manager also called me multiple times on the work phone and my cell phone to yell at me for asking for help on seafood days. Why do this to someone when you know about it? #termination #stressful

A friend of yours recently applied for a role and hadn’t heard from them in 2 weeks, they found the HR Manager’s number, left a VM and they’re currently about to send them a DM through socials, would you advise they go through with this?

Yes go through with it because it can't hurt anymore than it already does and it shows how interested you are in the position

Absolutely not. If no answer, they obviously have hired someone else or the job is just not suitable for you.

What’s the best way to deal with a new coworker that constantly breaks protocol but when you or anyone else tries to speak to them they go to hire ups and say they’re being “harassed”?

I was trained to discuss situations like this with my immediate supervisor or the chain of command that Netflix communicates as the best path to make your situation heard.

Talk to the supervisor

Do you think if a person is currently in a management position the company should work with their employee if they decide to go back to school? Said employee/manager would have to get there at 4pm instead of 2pm Tuesday-Friday with 1 Saturday (first) a month? #advice #termination # # #application #jobsearch #workfromhome #hiringevents #interview
When addressing a termination due to allegations, it's important to stay professional and focus on your skills and accomplishments. Emphasize what you learned from the experience and how you've grown. Be honest about the situation without going into too much detail. Jobcase, along with other job search providers, can help you explore new opportunities. Good luck with your job search!
