Without telling me you’ve worked in a restaurant. I’ll go first, “86 the shrimp!”

Age discrimination is a problem. New findings reveal ageism persists in the workplace, and more working women than men experience ageism. It’s gotten so bad, the House of Representatives passed a bill to protect older Americans in just the last week.

What are your stories, experiences, and how can we find new solutions to this problem? #ageism #motivation

I had to walk away from a ten year career in home health I was tired of being discriminated because of age and race If I could record those conversations they would be in question I have been gas lighted more times then I can count i am not believed or valued I look younger then my years so when they figure i am older then its applied I cant keep up or I cant do the job or I cant handle the responsibilities because they are out college and I passed we are older forgotten treated with no respect we have no voice we are not seen we are just forgotten its better to walk away from a system that is broken we are left to retire and be seen anymore we are pushed out and pushed way We have the wisdom and knowledge but we are just seen as old which to me age should be full of grace

I didn't put my year that i graduated on my resume and my work history only goes back 10 years, but NOBODY hires off a resume alone! Upon submitting a resume, you are also required to fill out an application which first questions after the basic name, address, city, state, zip, etc., is what is your d.o.b. and what year did you graduate from high school. The application clearly states, any items left unanswered or blank will deem the application incomplete. So, to those of you who say you can get hired by simply submitting a resume are incorrect. I also worked for HR and and application is required per Department of Labor for every person applying for any position. There has to be documentation.

Saw this news piece today hit the wire that someone decided it would be a good idea to call in a bomb threat because they didn't get their dipping sauces with the McNuggets meal.

Working a job that has you in contact with the general public can lead to some confrontations with crazy customers. What's the craziest situation you've had to deal with and how did you handle the situation?

I agree with both democratic & transactional. Both management styles tend to please the employees & boost the morale. Consequently that will increase the overall efficiency.

Hello, so I have been at my current job for almost two years. It's in a grocery store, and I have learned 4 departments. I want to ask my boss for a raise but I want to ask it in the right way. How would I go about doing it? #raise #firstjob

Hey Ashleigh!! I have gone through this in a few jobs and gotten raises so I will share my knowledge! The first thing to do is request a one on one with your manager. The second is to gather your info. How have you helped the store grow? What did you start off doing and how has that changed over the last two years? Make sure to bring this back to the company and what you have provided. You can request a raise or let them know that you have an interest in leading a department (which would most likely guarantee a raise). You never know to you ask, so make sure to prove to them why they need you and why you have earned that raise!! Also just know that if a company TRULY values you and your contributions they should 100% provide a raise. Good luck : )

Quick question @Ashleigh Magallanez , does you company conduct quarterly or yearly performance reviews? This is typically a good time to bring up raises as your strengths and areas for opportunity are commonly the main topics of discussion.

I'm not sure what you job entails but make a list of your daily tasks/responsibilities and try to pull hard data (metrics) to show how you're over-achieving in each area. Increased daily transactions by 10% and exceeded sales goals by 25% are good examples of how you can show your performance is raise worthy.

Don't leave out any areas where you volunteered to take on added responsibilities or examples of when you went above and beyond expectations. These are great ways to show your value and how your contributions have helped achieve team/company goals.

Schedule a one on one with your manager soon and keep us updated on your progress with this important goal. Good Luck!
