What to do if you get in an accident with a semi-truck
Being that a semi-truck hit me on Friday, I thought this video would be a good share wether you’re a truck driver or not. There’s a lot to process when this happens so it’s best to remain calm and collective if you’re not seriously injured.

Accident
Yesterday I was driving from the county recorder’s office and on my way to go take a drug screen for a new job offer I had received on Thursday and a semi-truck hit me. The truck driver failed to use his mirrors and decided to change lanes. His front tire hit my driver’s side door digging his lug nuts all the way to my back door. His response was “Sorry” and laughed. I filed my claim with my insurance and retained an attorney the same day.
If you ever get in accident be sure to call the police, exchange information, get a statement, take pictures, file a claim with your insurance and an attorney. My Mercedes is pretty messed up and I have back pain, but it could have been worse. As a truck driver myself, there are blind spots everywhere so always keep your head on a swivel when you’re driving next to semi trucks. He could have avoided this accident by using his mirrors that are on the hood. All in all my Mercedes can be replaced and I’m alive so I’m in good spirits.

Warehouse Manager Questions & Answers
Here’s a 10 minute video on how to answer warehouse manager questions. If you plan on making a career in the warehouse industry, I recommend on having a mindset to hold a leadership position.
When I first became a warehouse supervisor, I already had two business degrees, two professional certifications, and 15+ years working in a warehouses. I had extensive knowledge in safety, leadership, KPI’s, motivation, training, operations, and a variety of other warehouse functions. Warehouses are probably the most dynamic in terms of operations because they have several departments that are needed to meet organizational goals.
I recommend getting cross-trained in every department the warehouse has so you can get a clear understanding on how the operation works and what it needs to succeed.

Pre-Trip Inspection
It’s very important that you conduct a pre and post trip inspection before and after your shift. This is not only a safety concern, it’s a DOT regulation. I see truck drivers break down all the time and that’s mainly because they aren’t doing their inspections.
If you’re considering getting your CDL, I highly recommend to watch these videos because they will ask you at the DMV to conduct an inspection. The DMV will ask you for a really detailed inspection which a trucking school will train you to do.

8 Pros and Cons of becoming an owner operator
Here’s a video of some pros and cons if you want to become an owner operator in the trucking industry. 🚛
From my own personal experience and observation as a truck driver, I don’t recommend becoming an owner operator especially in California. There are new laws in California that make it really difficult to earn a profit. California is big on emissions so you’ll need to get your tractor inspected several times a year.
Becoming an owner operator also means you’ll have to get your own medical insurance and lose out on benefits like sick time, vacation time, and bonuses. You’ll also have to do a lot of “Over The Road” driving which means being away from your family, unpredictable weather conditions, irregular sleep patterns, lack of exercise, and unhealthy eating habits.
I personally make a low six figures, have excellent health insurance, amazing benefits, bonuses, PTO, weekends off, home every night, all that without the hassle of being an owner operator. But if you enjoy sight seeing and traveling, becoming an owner operator may be for you. 🛣️

California Diesel Ban for 2036
Looks like trucking manufacturers Ford, General Motors, and Daimler have agreed to the California’s diesel ban that is set for 2036 avoiding a drawn out legal battle. This is a huge win on both sides including the environment with the goal to lower emissions.
Although I’ve been noticing more and more electric semi-trucks at the Long Beach ports, manufacturing the batteries for these electric vehicles are still harmful to the environment. They also need to use large amounts of electricity to charge these semi-trucks which isn’t very economical for carriers, consumers, and our grids. This will cause the cost of goods to increase and possibly put another dent in the U.S economy. So in other words, we are trading one problem to inherit several other problems.
The solution the manufacturers are planning to implement is to manufacture hydrogen fueled semi-trucks. Although the idea is great and environmentally friendly, the hydrogen infrastructure is terribly bad and will take some team work from the trucking industry to correct by 2036. To create a whole new infrastructure can take decades, but apparently the manufacturing giants believe they can get it done. As a truck driver myself, I’m definitely rooting for these industry leaders to get the job done for the sake of our environment and economy.

Unauthorized Semi-Truck Parking
I was reading an article about a Greyhound bus colliding with a semi-truck on July 12 killing three people and injuring 14 in Highland, Illinois. This was the result of a semi-truck parking on an exit ramp which is unauthorized parking and cannot be used as a rest area. DOT regulations have strict rules that prevent truck drivers from driving past 16 hours or they’ll receive a citation and penalty for breaking this rule. With this rule in place “Over the Road” OTR drivers tend to just pull over on the highway and rest for 8 hours which is illegal. 🚫
Apparently the state of Illinois does not have enough rest areas for truck drivers. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating this accident to determine how they can prevent tragedies like this in the future. Although I’m not an OTR driver, from my personal experience truck rest areas are very difficult to find and can be really spread out making it a hassle for drivers looking to rest, fuel up, and put air in their tires if they need to. 🚛
If you’re a new driver, I recommend improving your time management skills, navigation skills, and organizational skills so you can minimize any possible dangerous situations like this. Know your routes and rest areas along the way. You can utilize apps like “TruckMap” that will provide you with truck routes, rest areas, scale locations, and other features that are useful for truck drivers. I am providing the link to the article for those that want to read it. 📖
