Companies often include WAY too many people in the job description process, with everyone adding a bullet point or two, until the listing becomes so cumbersome that the candidate who can actually fulfill all of the requirements doesn't even exist.

And then, when interviewing and selecting candidates to hire, companies will often realize that they need to make concessions because few (if any) of the candidates meet every bullet point on their wish list (job description).

Therefore, if you can do you half of the requirements in a job description, then confidently apply for that role.

Hello!

I'm a fairly recent graduate from SMU. I am looking for internships/jobs that can give me the chance to get my foot through the door and start my career. I am interested in wed development, and I have been self-teaching myself React and other languages while working on projects. Any advice, links, job postings, etc. will be absolutely valuable. Thank you! #noexperience #internships #jobsearch #workfromhome #computerscience #webdevelopment #frontend # #tips

Does anyone know of any companies hiring near Peru INDIANA THAT WILL HIRE SOMEONE WITH NON VIOLENT FELONY CONVICTIONS? Seems like debt to society is not ever payed because after serving 16 years in prison my criminal background constantly holds me back from trying to become productive member of society? #tips

Chances are you've been asked this classic question on an interview before..."Can you tell me about yourself?"

Why? Well because they want to see what YOU bring to their company. You might be wondering (or tempted) to tell your life story and be more personal, but don’t!

When an interviewer says, "Tell me about yourself," what he or she really wants to know is how your experience applies to the job you're interviewing for.

TIPS:

Stick to talking about what it is you do or have done as it relates to the job. You can think about some past experiences that are relevant to the job you’re applying for, and select 3 or so strengths you possess which you feel are important to the role.

This could be experiences, traits, skills, etc. By discussing these things it will allow your interviewer to know more about you and also cleverly state why you are a good fit for the role.

Selling yourself is key, so always be thinking in the back of your mind, “Would I hire me?”

Let’s take a look at an example:

Interviewer: Ok Joe, can you tell me more about yourself?

Joe: I have been working as a stocker for Target for over 2 years. My most recent experience has been writing and keeping track of inventory orders on our database systems. One reason I particularly enjoyed my position were the challenges that went along with it such as anticipating inventory needs. I also loved that I was able to use my organizational skills daily whether it was through taking inventory or rotating stock.

Next, mention your strengths and abilities:

Joe: My real strength is achieving goals. I pride myself on following through, maintaining company standards, and meeting deadlines. When I commit to doing something, I make sure it gets done, and on time.

Conclude with a statement about your current situation: Joe: What I am looking for now is a company that values commitment, offers a strong team and a place where my work efforts are valued."

Before you head into the interview PLAN what you are going to say. This little speech is called your elevator pitch. Once you have written it down, practice it at home with family, in front of the mirror, or even consider recording yourself. Get comfortable speaking about yourself and why you are a great fit for the company and your confidence will shine through!

What do YOU think is the toughest interview question?

Looking for work is a job within itself. There is a job out there for you. But please don't forget about your safety. What do I mean? Before you apply, before you say yes to send my resume to your client, the first question is where is it located? Is it in a safe neighborhood? If yes, its safe then move to the next question, can I get there by public transportation/car easily, parking available? Then move on to the other questions: Is this job a good fit for me? Are they willing to train? etc.. Going back to the subject of safety; if you are not familiar with a specific area/neighborhood ask your friend (s) (plural) directly. And thank them for their honesty. #tips

I made very good money as a waitress of two jobs for 20 years. Bartending was always the best of course. I averaged $30 an hour. I was the bread winner for my family for the past 5 years. I am no longer employed nor will I be asked to go back to those jobs since they were ma and pa restaurants and the owners serve, not the past staff, just so they don’t loose their business. I understand. But....I don’t have a college education nor tech/computer training/experience to get me a job that I can do from home since now I have to help my kids with their stay at home online schooling that’s been forced upon us as parents. I understand So what do we do? Unemployment will run out and my waitressing career is down the tubes. Sink or swim... I’m going back to school which is all online at home and using my arched nemesis, computers and technology, that will help me get a degree in Accounting so that I can get somewhere in life again. Praying for all the restaurant industry peeps out there that are hungry, about to be homeless due to not being able to collect unemployment: find a way to Renew and reinvent yourself, do NOT give up. I am so scared to try something new because I don’t learn well nor have I ever taken tests well, and I can’t imagine sitting at a desk for 8 hours. I loved what I did as a waitress, I loved the energy of people and being able to talk freely and exercise (walk, stretch, literally run at times,) and see regulars and build upon those relationships. This is a very difficult time for us and know you are not alone. I see you #server #laidoffindefinitely #foodservices #tips

To land a job at #Postmates I would make sure to...

Find a street that has a lot of popular restaurants. You don’t get paid for the miles to the shop, only to the customer. Most fast food chains don’t pay very much, so try shooting for the actual restaurants. Call ahead to get them started on your order while your driving. #Postmates hacks #gig working #tips&tricks
