So I got laid off it will be a year as of the 25. I have to say I am utterly drained in every sense! Iam mentally emotionally and spiritually drained!! I just don’t know what do I actually dread this life of nothing!!!! It’s so hard to stay positive especially when ur going insane from billls and daily struggle! I think it’s ridiculous what these companies expect from us (qualification wise). Why do I need a bachelor degree to sell a mattress I’m from nyc hustle and common sense is in the blood we have to be fast learners we are so diverse and fast paced seriously tho a 4 year college degree to sell a mattress!!!!! ABSOLUTELY ABSURD!!! Especially when you go to the store and the employees are a bunch of idiots who don’t want to help and have child like attitudes!!! I’m trying to remain positive sorry about the rant I had to let it out! Working retail can be tough. Customers get angry, frustrated, and can easily take it out on you or each other. When I worked at Target I was lucky because I had great managers and co-workers who would come to your rescue if need be. Teamwork is something that I liked there. One day I had two parents come to my register with some kind of toy that both their kids wanted. One tells me he needs it for his kid's birthday and the other one says that they need it for their son and they had it first. They ask me which one had it first. I had NO clue so my co-worker saw that they were getting really upset and rushes over. She looks up the toy in our system and thank god found it in another store. She says to one of the parents that there is another one in a local store and they instantly calmed down. The customer is always right and in this case I was just glad a fist fight didn't happen, haha.

I have to say I liked the people the best, but also that I learned a lot about how to organize things and give great customer service from my manager, Terry. She was awesome!!! Most patient woman ever. If I made a mistake and felt embarrassed she just looked me in the eyes and said it was ok and to keep going. So to everyone out there....it's OK, keep going!
I have worked in retail most of my life. I worked at Target, Dollar Tree, Macy's, and a few others a while back and I particularly enjoyed it in the men's department. I helped men find suits on the sales floor and also worked as a cashier. It taught me quite a few things about retail. You have to be tough. If someone has a bad day they might take it out on you. It's NOT personal. If you are the type who likes to take in the holiday season and relax, then nope move on. That's THE busiest time. If you want to move up in the company then you work hard for it. Do your job and do it well. Talk to your co-workers, help them out, and befriend them. It's good to have work friends no matter where you are. Good luck in retail!
I was thankful to be hired in a specialty department (doors & windows) for Lowe's because it allowed me to sit down with customers and discuss their needs for new doors or windows. I like working with people and Lowe's recognized that. They took the time to train me in my area of interest. I had a good experience with them.
