I really loved working for #Washington State Department of Corrections because...

At the first facility within the department, the people are unparalleled. Willing to teach as long as you are willing to learn. The facility I transferred to, entirely to political and couldn't care less about each other unless they transferred from another facility. It's all about which one you are willing to try to get hired on at.

What I loved about working at #Washington Department of Corrections was

The job that I did was working for inside construction. As we got work orders from the veryous place from inside the prison we would gather up the tools for the job and then go fix the problem. We did things such as putting metal stools and desks in the cells so the inmates could sit and write a little to friends and family. They would be bolted to the floor and walls. We would get thanked by the inmates for it as we left. We worked on patching concrete when the inmates found something to chip away at it. Always a bad decision on their part. It would get them a fine and a temp to escape charge. You really had to be a jack of all trades to work this position. We would go around and fix any fencing that looked as though it needed it or put it in a place where an inmate could hide. I also designed a trailer to haul carts on to save the prison money. The carts used to be pulled be a truck to get them from one side of the prison to the other and the whils would have to be replaced about every month. This took up a good chunk of the budget. The other part that I did was organize the paperwork from year , date and time of the work order.I even organized the shop.

Following up on our discussion last week about job search pet peeve: salary range MIA, there is a growing trend in state pay transparency laws. If you are applying to jobs in #California, #Maryland, #RhodeIsland and #Washington, the employers MUST DISCLOSE pay range to applicants UPON REQUEST. Other states like #Nevada require employers to provide a salary range to applicants who have completed an interview even without a request. You can check more details about the regulation in your states. Or even better, advocate for something similar if your state doesn’t have such law!

Have you requested a salary range before? How was your experience like?

I really loved working for #Washington State Board of Industrial Indursnce Appeals because...

The management was the best. I read the details of the case and summarize the history of the claimants appeal and made decisions whether to grant or deny their appeals. When the appeals were granted, they were assigned to judges for decisions. I loved the job but my wife got sick and I had to take care of her, until she died. My title was as a Judicial Appeals Analyst. This is a Paralegal position. #interview
